For anyone trying to fit serious gaming power into a small setup, ASUS has pushed the compact PC idea further with the ROG NUC 16. The machine packs high-end gaming hardware into a 3-liter chassis, making it one of the most aggressive mini PC designs in its class.
That compact size does not come with a modest spec sheet. ASUS pairs the system with a latest-generation Intel Core processor based on the ARL-HX architecture and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, aiming squarely at users who want desktop-level ambition without a large tower.
Built for heavy gaming in a tiny footprint
The graphics side is led by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, and ASUS says the system supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5. That includes transformer-based Super Resolution and Multi-frame generation, both designed to keep visuals smooth when demanding games push the hardware hard.
ASUS also claims DLSS 4.5 can meaningfully reduce latency in intense gaming scenarios while producing up to five extra frames for every traditionally rendered frame. In practical terms, the goal is to keep the experience responsive even though the device itself remains extremely compact.
Intel Core Ultra 9 power inside
On the processing side, the ROG NUC 16 uses the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus. ASUS says its internal testing showed the chip delivering 2.3% better performance in 3DMark than the previous ROG NUC generation.
That combination of CPU and GPU is what makes the system stand out, since the entire package is aimed at users who want a powerful gaming machine without dedicating much space to it. ASUS is also offering a Moonlight White Edition for those who prefer a lighter finish instead of the usual dark gaming aesthetic.
Cooling is a central part of the design
Mini PCs often struggle with heat, so ASUS gave the ROG NUC 16 a QuietFlow Cooling system. It uses three 102 x 102 x 17 mm fans together with a dual vapor chamber to help control temperatures inside the 3-liter enclosure.
ASUS says the thermal design increases CPU cooling area by 12% within the chassis. The company also includes a dedicated SSD heatsink that is said to lower storage operating temperatures from 72°C to 59°C, while fan noise stays below 38 dBA even under full load.
Memory, placement, and multi-display use
The ROG NUC 16 supports DDR5-6400 memory up to 128GB. ASUS positions that capacity as a way to keep high-FPS gameplay stable and reduce stuttering when workloads become heavier.
A patented removable stand adds more flexibility to the setup. The system can be used vertically or horizontally, which makes it easier to adapt to a gaming desk, a work area, or a living room entertainment space.
In horizontal mode, ASUS says the mini PC can serve as a home entertainment hub for gaming on a large TV at up to 8K resolution. For more demanding desktop use, it can also support up to five 4K displays at once.

The ROG NUC 16 shows how far ASUS is willing to push mini PC design without giving up top-tier components.
