A flagship phone can stand out for speed alone, but iQOO 16 appears to be aiming for something more ambitious. The latest leaks point to a device built around endurance, sustained performance, and a display setup that pushes beyond what many premium phones currently offer.
The most eye-catching detail is the reported battery capacity of around 8,500mAh. That would place iQOO 16 well above the India variant of iQOO 15, which carries a 7,000mAh battery, and signals a much larger leap than a routine refresh.
A bigger battery changes the formula
A battery of this size suggests iQOO is looking beyond short bursts of flagship performance. The focus appears to be on longer daily usage and stronger resilience under heavy workloads.
That approach also fits the broader direction of the device, which is being tested as a premium model meant to handle gaming and sustained performance more seriously. In a market where many flagships still play it safe on battery size, iQOO 16 is already drawing attention for taking a different path.
Display upgrades are part of the plan
The screen is expected to match that aggressive hardware direction. iQOO 16 is said to use a flat 2K panel with a new custom substrate and an ultra-high refresh rate.
This would keep the phone in the high-end performance segment, while also building on what iQOO 15 already offered in India. That model came with a 6.85-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display, a 144Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits.
New Qualcomm silicon is in testing
Another key part of the leak comes from Digital Chat Station on Weibo. The tipster says the early prototype uses a Qualcomm processor with the model number SM8975.
That chip is widely expected to debut as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. The prototype being tested reportedly does not include a built-in cooling fan, which makes thermal control an important part of the design.
Thermals and gaming look central
Previous reports suggested that iQOO 16 may rely on a redesigned thermal management system. That would likely be the main answer to heat control when the phone is pushed hard.
There is also talk of an internal performance chip, which would typically be used to improve gaming behavior and maintain stable output during demanding sessions. Combined with the large battery and flagship-grade hardware, that setup points to a phone tuned for extended gaming and heavy multitasking.
Camera and market reach remain in view
Performance is not the only area tied to iQOO 16. The phone has also been linked with a periscope telephoto camera, a feature that usually matters to users looking for more flexible zoom in the premium tier.
iQOO 15 India already offered three 50-megapixel rear cameras, including a periscope telephoto lens. If iQOO 16 keeps that direction, the company would be trying to preserve a balance between speed, battery life, and imaging.
There are also signs that the device is being prepared for a wider release. It has reportedly appeared in the IMEI database under model number I2601, which points to possible launches in India and other global markets.
Testing is still said to be underway, and iQOO has not officially announced the phone yet. Even so, the combination of an 8,500mAh battery, a 2K flat display, and next-generation Qualcomm hardware already makes iQOO 16 one of the more unusual flagship leaks to surface so far.
