Samsung’s next foldable flagship is shaping up around one of the biggest pain points in the category: the crease. New chatter suggests the Galaxy Z Fold8 series may bring screen crease control close to the level of Oppo Find N6, a device already known for having a foldable display with almost no distracting crease.
That comparison matters because the crease is not just a cosmetic detail. On a foldable, a cleaner panel can make reading, video playback, and multitasking feel noticeably smoother, which is why any improvement here tends to stand out more than a minor spec bump on paper.
Ice Universe has said that crease control on the Fold8 line is now as good as on Oppo Find N6. He also previously said the foldable screen crease on the Fold8 series had not improved much, but later clarified that earlier comment referred to an early test version.
That clarification suggests Samsung’s foldable is still moving through late-stage development. In other words, the version being discussed now may no longer match the prototype that was mentioned before.
The latest talk also fits with earlier reports about Samsung’s direction for the Galaxy Z Fold8. One earlier claim said the device would arrive with a foldable screen that shows no visible crease before Apple launches its own foldable iPhone.
Another report from earlier this year said Samsung would use a new display technology on the Galaxy Z Fold8. That technology was said to reduce crease visibility by around 20%.
A possible branding shift
Display upgrades are not the only rumor surrounding the series. Ice Universe also said the naming plan has changed, with the model once expected to be called Fold8 now reportedly set to become Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
At the same time, the device previously known as Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide is now said to be the Galaxy Z Fold8 regular model. Ice Universe said this naming change was decided only recently.
That move points to a broader premium strategy from Samsung. The Ultra label is typically used for the top tier in Samsung’s product lineup, so the new naming could be meant to separate the most advanced foldable from the rest of the family.
A CAD render for the device once known as Fold8 Wide also surfaced through OnLeaks. That render was linked to the model now expected to be sold as the regular Galaxy Z Fold8.
Why Oppo Find N6 keeps coming up
Oppo Find N6 is not being used as a random comparison point. It has built a reputation for a foldable display with a crease that is barely noticeable, which makes it a natural benchmark whenever display quality is discussed.
That is why Ice Universe’s comparison is getting attention. The focus is not only on design language, but on how the screen feels in daily use, especially when the device is used for reading, watching content, or working on a larger display.
If Samsung reaches that level, the change could be one of the most visible upgrades for foldable buyers. In a segment where compromises are still expected, a more seamless screen can have a bigger impact than many numbers on a spec sheet.
Other features remain uncertain
There are still unresolved questions beyond the display. Ice Universe previously claimed the Galaxy Z Fold8 series will not include the Privacy Screen feature seen on S26 Ultra.
He also said the series will not support S Pen. Neither point has been confirmed officially, and both remain part of the current leak cycle.
The rumored launch date points to 22 July. If that timeline proves accurate, more of the final picture should become clear soon, including the display quality, the final model names, and which features actually make it to the finished product.
