Samsung has started rolling out One UI 8.5 to the Galaxy A16 5G, and the update gives the budget phone a set of features that are usually associated with more expensive devices. The package is also notable because it arrives as a large download and includes the May 2026 security patch.
The update is being distributed through firmware A166PXXU7DZE2 and weighs around 2.3GB. At the moment, Samsung has made it available in Indonesia and India, with users able to check for it through Settings, then Software update, and finally Download and install.
A more modern look and deeper customization
One UI 8.5 brings a visible refresh to the Galaxy A16 5G interface. Samsung has introduced stronger transparency and blur effects, giving the system a more layered and modern feel.
The Quick Panel has also been redesigned with full customization support. Users can now arrange shortcuts and quick access controls to better match their daily habits.
The lock screen gets several changes as well. Samsung has added more clock font options, automatic lock screen layout adjustment, and extra wallpapers that can be downloaded.
New tools for everyday tasks
Several core apps also receive upgrades in this release. The Weather app now includes a pollen index, while the alarm experience gets weather effects for the background.
The Clock app now has a built-in time zone converter. That addition is useful for users who often deal with schedules across different time zones without needing another app.
One UI 8.5 also adds Direct Voicemail to the Galaxy A16 5G. Samsung has also included the option to create shortcuts for commonly used wireless display devices, which should make screen mirroring faster to start.
Samsung Internet gets a practical improvement for Galaxy users as well. The New Tab page can now show tabs that are open on another Galaxy device owned by the same user.
Productivity and health features expand
Samsung Notes now supports table insertion. That makes it easier to organize work notes, data lists, and other structured information.
The Calculator app gets a more unusual feature too. It can now suggest calculations based on content copied to the clipboard, which may help users handle quick arithmetic with fewer steps.
Samsung has also added early reminder alerts. The option gives important notifications a chance to appear ahead of schedule when needed.
Samsung Health is part of the update as well. The app now offers more ways to share exercise statistics, adding flexibility for users who want to save or pass along activity data.
If paired with a Galaxy Watch, users can also start antioxidant measurements and meditation sessions directly from the watch. That extends the connection between the phone and wearable devices in the Galaxy ecosystem.
Battery details and security changes
Device Care has been updated with more detailed battery information. Samsung says this gives users a clearer view of how the device’s power condition changes over time.
Security is another important part of the package. One UI 8.5 brings Theft Protection and also adds the ability to temporarily disable Auto Blocker.
Because the update is large, Samsung recommends leaving at least 30% battery before installation begins. Users should also make sure there is enough free storage space and a stable internet connection before downloading the package.
The combination of new features and the May 2026 security patch makes this rollout more than a cosmetic refresh. For Galaxy A16 5G users in Indonesia and India, One UI 8.5 adds a broader set of tools while also strengthening system protection.
