Casio has expanded its rugged watch lineup with the G-Shock GBX-H5600, a model that combines health monitoring with surfing tools built for active users. The watch stands out by delivering real-time heart rate tracking alongside tide and sunrise data directly on the wrist.
That combination gives the GBX-H5600 a broader role than a typical sports watch. It is aimed at wearers who want G-Shock durability, daily fitness tracking, and surf-friendly functions in one device.
Health tracking built into a surf watch
At the center of the GBX-H5600 is an optical sensor that measures heart rate in real time and estimates blood oxygen levels, or SpO2. Casio also equips the watch with a three-axis accelerometer for step counting, distance tracking, and speed measurement.
The fitness features go further with activity tracking, sleep analysis, and cardio load monitoring. These functions are designed to help users better understand both daily movement and overall physical condition.
Surf data and smartphone support
As part of the G-Lide family, the GBX-H5600 also brings tide charts, moon phase information, and sunrise and sunset times. For surfers, those tools can help identify better windows for getting into the water.
The watch extends those functions through Bluetooth connectivity and a companion smartphone app. Through the app, users can access tide data for about 3,300 surf locations around the world.
Casio is positioning the model for people who split their time between the beach, the gym, and the outdoors. That makes the GBX-H5600 more than a niche surf accessory, since it also serves as a broader fitness companion.
Lighter build, familiar G-Shock design
Visually, the GBX-H5600 keeps the square G-Shock look that has defined the series for years. Casio is offering it in two colors: black for the GBX-H5600-1 and blue for the GBX-H5600-2.
The company also shifted to more eco-conscious materials. The bezel and strap use bio-based resin, while the case back is made from carbon fiber-reinforced resin.
Those changes help reduce weight, bringing the watch down to 47 grams. Casio says that is about 12 grams lighter than the DW-H5600 series.
The display remains a high-resolution Memory-in-Pixel, or MIP LCD, which is meant to stay readable under strong sunlight. That detail is important for outdoor use, especially when surfing conditions demand quick visibility.
Smart functions and battery life
Beyond sports and surf tools, the GBX-H5600 adds everyday smartwatch features. It can deliver call, email, and social media notifications from a connected smartphone.
Casio also includes a phone finder and automatic time synchronization over Bluetooth. These additions make the watch useful as a daily companion, not just a workout device.
Power comes from a hybrid charging system that combines USB charging and solar energy. With continuous heart rate monitoring enabled, battery life is rated at up to 35 hours.
When used as a standard digital watch without heart rate tracking, Casio says the battery can last for about one month. In power-saving mode, the runtime can extend to as long as 11 months without recharging.
Price and availability
The G-Shock GBX-H5600 is now available in the United States in black and blue. Casio has set the price at USD 330.
With its mix of health sensors, surf data, and rugged construction, the GBX-H5600 is tailored to active users who want more from a watch than simple timekeeping. Its feature set places it at the intersection of training, outdoor use, and beach-focused activity.
