Samsung’s Fold 8 Split Gets Clearer, Leaks Point to a Bigger Change Than Expected

Samsung’s next foldable lineup is starting to look less like a routine refresh and more like a deliberate reshuffle. New leaks suggest the company is preparing Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 with noticeably different identities ahead of Galaxy Unpacked 2026.

The strongest clue so far comes from Ice Universe, who shared images of alleged screen protectors for the upcoming devices on Weibo. From those parts, the outer display sizes, the shape of the closed devices, and Samsung’s design direction for each model are becoming easier to read.

Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra Are No Longer Meant to Look Alike

Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to arrive with a wider cover screen and a larger aspect ratio than its predecessor. That change is meant to make the phone easier to use when folded, especially for typing, browsing, and everyday app use.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra appears to follow a different path by keeping the premium design language that already appeared on Galaxy Z Fold 7. If the leak is accurate, Samsung is keeping the Ultra model positioned as the most upscale foldable in the lineup.

The difference between the two Fold models is notable because Samsung no longer seems to be building them as near twins. Instead, the company may be giving each variant a clearer role, with one focused on a more practical cover-display experience and the other on premium positioning.

Flip 8 Keeps the Clamshell Format, but the Front Changes

Galaxy Z Flip 8 is still expected to keep its familiar clamshell design, but the leaked protector images suggest a refreshed look around the outer camera area. The front design appears more integrated and modern than before.

Earlier Samsung Flip models used two separate camera cutouts. In the newly shared protector images, the camera area looks more elongated, giving the front of the device a cleaner visual layout.

That cutout also confirms Samsung is retaining the outer camera system on the cover display. The difference is that the company seems to be refining the visual treatment rather than changing the Flip formula itself.

Protector Images Also Hint at Real Size Differences

In the images shared by Ice Universe, the three external protectors are shown side by side. That comparison makes Galaxy Z Fold 8’s cover display look larger than the one used on previous Fold generations.

The leak supports a long-running rumor that Samsung wants its foldables to feel closer to a conventional smartphone when closed. That remains an important point in the foldable market, where cover-screen usability can shape how practical a device feels day to day.

Launch Timing and Chipset Plans Are Also Taking Shape

Industry reports say Samsung may announce the new foldables at Galaxy Unpacked on 22 July 2026 in London, England. Samsung has not officially confirmed that date, but several devices believed to be the three new models have already appeared in regulator certifications across multiple countries.

Certification appearances are often treated as a sign that launch is getting closer. In that context, the design leaks and protector comparisons now circulating feel more concrete than early rumor-stage speculation.

Earlier leaks also point to different chip choices across the lineup. Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are rumored to use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 from Qualcomm, while Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to run on Samsung’s Exynos 2600.

If those details hold, Samsung seems to be building a more segmented foldable family for 2026. The Fold models would target the premium large-screen segment, while the Flip 8 would continue to appeal to buyers who want a compact form factor with a more practical everyday approach.
