Huawei is trying to solve a familiar problem for mobile users: tablets can feel too bulky, while smartphones often feel too cramped for work and entertainment. The MatePad Mini answers that gap with an 8.8-inch form factor, a weight of just 260 grams, and a thickness of 5.2 mm.
That combination puts it closer to a large phone than a conventional tablet. Even without a case, the device is described as compact enough to fit into a standard denim pocket.
Built for movement, not just desk use
The MatePad Mini is clearly aimed at people who move between places throughout the day. It is positioned for commuting on KRL trains, shifting from one meeting to another, or simply being used in a cafe without the burden of carrying a larger device.
Huawei is also placing it outside the usual category of IPS-based tablets. The company is targeting users who want a larger screen than a smartphone provides, but still value a device that is easy to carry and light in the hand.
OLED display with features designed for the eyes
The visual centerpiece is a flexible 2.5K OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness reaches 1800 nits, which helps the screen stay readable in bright conditions.
Huawei adds PaperMatte Display and anti-glare treatment to reduce reflections. An E-Book Mode is also included, making the screen more comfortable for reading comics, manga, and digital books for long periods.
With extremely thin bezels, the screen-to-body ratio reaches 92 percent. The result is a device that feels dominated by display area, and its footprint is even said to be smaller than that of many physical novels.
AI features push the productivity angle
The MatePad Mini is not relying on size alone. It also brings productivity tools intended to feel closer to a PC experience through WPS Office.
For note-taking, Huawei Notes includes Handwriting Recognition that can turn handwritten notes into digital text. The tablet also adds AI Equation Recognition and Calculation, which can detect and solve mathematical formulas automatically.
Support for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office 365 makes the device relevant for online meetings and document work as well. That combination gives it a broader role than a simple media device.
Battery, charging, and modern connectivity
Huawei equips the MatePad Mini with a 6,400 mAh battery. A 66W Huawei SuperCharge system is included to shorten charging time during busy days on the move.
The tablet also supports Wi-Fi 7, giving it readiness for newer network demands. For security, the fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button to keep unlocking practical.
Cameras and the version heading to Indonesia
For video calls, Huawei provides a 32 MP front camera. On the back, there is a dual camera setup with 50 MP and 8 MP sensors for more flexible photo use in the tablet class.
In Indonesia, the MatePad Mini arrives in Green with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. That configuration gives it ample room for work files and content consumption alike.
With its 260-gram body, 2.5K OLED screen, and standout AI features, the MatePad Mini aims to fill a space that mainstream tablets often leave open. It combines portability, eye comfort, and productivity in a body that remains impressively thin.
