Samsung may be preparing a much sharper divide between its next book-style foldables than in previous generations. Leaked details point to a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with a 200MP main camera and a larger battery than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The reported split extends beyond imaging hardware. The two phones are also expected to take notably different approaches to their inner and cover display sizes.
Two Foldables, Two Display Formats
The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to feature a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display with a resolution of 1848 x 2448 pixels. Its 5.5-inch cover display is reportedly set to use a 1248 x 1972-pixel resolution.
The inner panel on the standard model is expected to have a 16:9 aspect ratio, while the outer screen may use a 4:3 ratio. Both displays are reported to support refresh rates of up to 120Hz.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, by contrast, is expected to retain display proportions similar to those of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It is said to have an 8-inch foldable display with a 2256 x 2504-pixel resolution and a 6.5-inch cover screen.
| Model | Inner Display | Cover Display | Refresh Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 | 7.6 inches, 1848 x 2448 pixels | 5.5 inches, 1248 x 1972 pixels | Up to 120Hz |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra | 8 inches, 2256 x 2504 pixels | 6.5 inches | Up to 120Hz |
Ultra Could Take the Clear Camera Lead
According to details reported by WinFuture, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra may use a triple rear camera system. It is expected to include a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly set for a dual rear camera arrangement. Its setup may consist of a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera.
Both phones are said to include two 10MP front-facing cameras. The addition of a telephoto lens and the higher-resolution main sensor could make the Ultra the more camera-focused option.
| Model | Battery | Rear Cameras | Front Cameras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 | 4,800mAh | 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide | 2 x 10MP |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra | 5,000mAh | 200MP main, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto | 2 x 10MP |
Core Performance May Remain Identical
Despite the reported hardware differences, both foldables are expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. The octa-core chip is said to reach a peak clock speed of 4.47GHz.
The devices may be offered with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. Their shared connectivity package is expected to include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and USB Type-C.
Charging support is also expected to be the same across both models, with 45W wired charging reported for each device. The battery capacity difference could therefore be one of the more practical distinctions for buyers.
Samsung Event Is Scheduled for July 22
Samsung is scheduled to hold a Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22 at 2 p.m. local time, or 6:30 p.m. IST. The company has confirmed Flex Titanium display technology for its newest foldable devices.
The event could also bring the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 9, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and Galaxy Glasses. Until Samsung presents the devices, the reported Galaxy Z Fold 8 specifications remain unconfirmed.
