An 8-Inch OLED and 5G Could Make Lenovo’s Next Legion Tablet Far More Mobile

Lenovo may be preparing a more independent version of its compact gaming tablet, with the Legion Y700 Infinite reportedly adding both an 8-inch OLED display and 5G connectivity. The combination could make the device more practical for gaming, streaming, and cloud gaming away from home Wi-Fi networks.

The reported model is expected to arrive in China in August 2026 as a higher-tier version of the Legion Y700 Gen 5. Lenovo has not confirmed the device, and its availability outside China remains unclear.

A Compact Gaming Tablet with Cellular Access

According to leaker Digital Chat Station, the Legion Y700 Infinite could be the first model in the Legion Y700 line to support 5G. The reported setup includes dual-SIM standby through a physical SIM card and an eSIM.

The tablet is also said to support the N79 5G band and use a smart multi-antenna system. That antenna design is intended to maintain signal reception while the device is held in different positions during gameplay.

Cellular connectivity could reduce the need to rely on a phone hotspot or public Wi-Fi. This would be particularly relevant for users who want a compact gaming device with direct internet access while travelling.

OLED Would Replace the Existing LCD Approach

The Legion Y700 Infinite is reportedly fitted with an 8-inch OLED panel featuring a centered punch-hole front camera. This would mark a notable display change from the IPS LCD used on the regular Legion Y700 Gen 5.

Details such as display resolution, refresh rate, and brightness have not been disclosed. The existing Legion Y700 Gen 5 has an 8.8-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate.

The Gen 5 model also carries a 9,000mAh battery and is known globally as the Legion Tab Gen 5. The Infinite variant appears positioned to address the regular model’s lack of cellular connectivity and its LCD panel.

Overclocked Chip and Memory Options

Performance is expected to come from an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Its CPU clock speed is said to reach up to 4.74GHz.

Reported memory configurations range from 12GB of RAM to 24GB of RAM. The highest option is said to pair 24GB of RAM with 1TB of internal storage.

Configuration RAM Storage
Base 12GB 256GB
Mid-tier 16GB 512GB
High-tier 24GB 512GB
Top-tier 24GB 1TB

Gizmochina reported that the tablet may also include a 50MP rear camera. An RGB lighting element is expected on the rear panel, matching the gaming-oriented Legion design language.

Lower Weight Could Improve Portability

The Legion Y700 Infinite is reportedly expected to weigh around 310 grams. That would make it approximately 50 grams lighter than the Legion Y700 Gen 5.

A lower weight could be important for a device designed for mobile use and extended handheld sessions. Lenovo appears to be targeting a balance of portability, high-end performance, and the cooling focus associated with the Legion series.

If the reported specifications prove accurate, the model could compete with compact gaming tablets such as the Red Magic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro. That device is sold globally as the Red Magic Astra 2.

Pricing, full sales timing, and target markets have not been revealed. For now, the report points to a Lenovo tablet designed to offer more flexibility beyond a fixed Wi-Fi connection.
