Pixel’s Quick Settings Bugs Get Attention in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7

Google has released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7 with a focus on Quick Settings problems that could disrupt routine use on Pixel devices. The update does not add new features, instead addressing Battery Share, a status bar display issue, and a font-size control crash.

The release is particularly relevant for beta users who rely on the quick-access panel for common controls. Its changes target functions that were already available but did not always behave as intended.

What Google fixed

Area Previous issue Beta 7 change
Battery Share Could fail to start or keep showing a charging animation Quick Settings access issue was addressed
Status bar Blank gap appeared between battery and mobile-data icons Display is corrected when Wi-Fi is turned off
Font size Quick Settings control could crash Text-size adjustment can be used again

Battery Share is the most practical of the fixes because it can be launched through Quick Settings. Google’s release notes, cited by Gadgets360, said the feature could fail to start and in some cases would continue showing a charging animation when users tried to enable it.

The update is intended to remove that behavior without changing the capability itself. For affected users, the correction concerns reliable access to an existing Pixel function rather than a new system tool.

Google also addressed a visual defect that appeared after Wi-Fi was switched off through Quick Settings. The condition created an empty space between the battery icon and the mobile-data icon in the panel’s status bar.

The gap did not introduce a new functional limitation, but it made the interface look unfinished when connectivity settings changed. Beta 7 places this correction alongside the other Quick Settings refinements.

Another fix concerns the font-size controller in the same panel. Before this release, the control could crash, preventing users from adjusting text size through the quick-access interface.

With the issue addressed, text-size changes can again be made from that control. The release therefore concentrates on making established controls more dependable during everyday use.

Where Beta 7 is available

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7 is available to eligible Google Pixel devices enrolled in the Android 17 beta program. The listed devices include the Pixel 6 and newer models, the Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet.

Google announced the update on July 15 as a follow-up to Beta 6. The earlier version had brought Android 17 QPR1 to platform stability, leaving Beta 7 to focus on refinements.

The first stable Android 17 release had begun rolling out almost a month earlier to selected Pixel phones and tablets. Major Android 17 changes are still expected through the Quarterly Platform Release 1, or QPR1.

The stable Android 17 release previously introduced Bubbles as a multitasking function and Screen Reactions for recording the screen and the user at the same time. It also added a Foldable Gaming mode for book-style foldable devices.

Beta 7 follows a different path by concentrating on stability instead of expanding that feature list. It is most relevant to Pixel beta participants who have encountered Battery Share failures, the status-bar gap, or font-size crashes in Quick Settings.
