Samsung has said that the reddish tint reported by some Galaxy S26 Ultra owners is not a hardware failure. The company attributes the issue to abnormal system optimisation affecting colour calibration and plans to correct it with a software update.
The statement offers reassurance to users concerned that the display panel may need replacement. Samsung does not classify the effect as burn-in, panel ageing, or a permanent display defect.
When the Red Tint Becomes Visible
The reported colour shift appears locally rather than across the entire display, with the centre of the screen identified as the main affected area. It is most noticeable when the phone is set to maximum brightness.
Bright outdoor use can make the change easier to spot. At peak brightness, the display may show a slight colour shift while detecting strong ambient light.
| Usage condition | Reported display effect |
|---|---|
| Maximum screen brightness | The reddish tint is more visible |
| Very bright surroundings | The colour shift is easier to notice |
| Centre of the display | The local tint is mainly reported in this area |
Reports of the issue had appeared on user forums, including Reddit. Some owners initially linked it to Privacy Display, a hardware-based feature exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
That concern was understandable because physical display issues can lead to a screen replacement at a service centre. Samsung’s explanation instead places the cause in the software processing behind display colour calibration.
Colour Calibration Update in Preparation
According to Samsung’s explanation cited by Gizmochina, the planned fix will adjust the device’s colour-calibration algorithm. The company has not provided a specific release date for the update.
The correction is expected to arrive through the regular software-update channel. Users affected by the tint may therefore not need to visit a service centre solely for this issue.
Once the update is available, it is expected to restore the display’s colour appearance without replacing the panel. Samsung has not indicated that the screen component itself is defective.
Temporary Settings to Try
While waiting for the update, users can reduce screen brightness to make the reddish tint less visible. Adjusting the display mode and white balance may also make the colour change feel less pronounced.
These adjustments are not presented as a permanent solution for every affected user. They may nevertheless be useful when the device must be used under strong light at high brightness.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra continues to draw attention for its Snapdragon chip, One UI features, and premium design. For the display issue, Samsung’s position is that a software calibration correction, rather than hardware repair, is the intended remedy.
