OnePlus owners may soon have to choose between keeping OxygenOS and continuing to receive future software updates. Oppo says affected OnePlus phones will move to ColorOS in the coming months as the brand stops launching new products in the United States and Europe.
Users can reportedly return to OxygenOS if they prefer, but that choice may come without future updates. Oppo Europe CEO Elvis Zhoy said the option would remain available, while indicating that ongoing software support was unlikely for users who stay with the older operating system.
ColorOS Becomes the Main Update Path
The shift to ColorOS is central to Oppo’s plan for existing OnePlus devices. ColorOS is Oppo’s operating system and is expected to be used for subsequent updates on affected OnePlus phones.
Oppo has not identified which models will receive the transition or provided a detailed migration timetable. That leaves owners waiting for confirmation on device eligibility and the practical rollout process.
The company has said that software updates and after-sales support for existing products will remain guaranteed. James Paterson, Senior PR Manager at Oppo Europe, told The Verge that users should not be concerned about the continuation of basic services.
“Software updates and after-sales support will remain guaranteed,” Paterson said. The statement offers reassurance for current users, although the details vary in significance across different markets.
| Region | OnePlus Status | Support Context |
|---|---|---|
| United States | No new products | Support and warranties are promised, but the process is not detailed. |
| Europe | No new products | Oppo will continue selling phones and other products. |
| China | Product roadmap unchanged | Oppo has confirmed OnePlus plans will continue. |
US Warranty Questions Remain
The United States presents the least defined part of the transition. Oppo currently has no physical presence in the country and has not explained how it will meet existing warranty and support obligations.
OnePlus will no longer introduce new products in the US, making the handling of current customers a key concern. Oppo’s assurance covers support in principle, but it does not yet explain the operational route for warranty claims.
Europe Will Still Have Oppo Products
OnePlus ending new launches in Europe does not mean Oppo is withdrawing all operations from the region. Oppo says it will continue to sell phones and other products there.
The decision therefore changes the role of the OnePlus brand rather than eliminating the parent company’s European retail presence. Existing OnePlus users in Europe are also expected to be part of the planned software support arrangement.
Broader Market Plans Are Still Unclear
Oppo has not released a list of countries where OnePlus will remain active after its US and European pullback. When asked about operations in other markets, the company declined to provide further comment.
Bloomberg previously reported that OnePlus could leave India and other markets except China by 2027. Oppo representative Nicole Okpokiri responded only by confirming that the OnePlus product roadmap in China would not change.
OnePlus is also preparing to launch the flagship OnePlus 16, although its availability outside China remains uncertain. Oppo has separately confirmed that Realme is restructuring to focus on international markets and will no longer introduce new products in China.
