Kirin 9030 Leak Reveals 9-Core Chip and Enhanced GPU in Huawei’s Latest Processor

Huawei’s latest chipset, the Kirin 9030, has finally leaked ahead of the Mate 80 series launch. This new processor marks a significant upgrade with a novel nine-core CPU design and a more powerful GPU, promising enhanced performance for Huawei’s flagship devices. The leak surfaced when the Mate 80 Pro Max appeared on Geekbench, revealing specifications that had been tightly guarded until now.

The Kirin 9030 departs from the previous Kirin 9020’s eight-core setup by introducing an additional CPU core, totaling nine cores in a 1+4+4 configuration. This means one core runs at 2.75GHz, while four performance cores run at 2.27GHz and four efficiency cores at 1.72GHz. Huawei aims to balance raw power with power efficiency, an approach that signals their ambition amid fierce competition with Qualcomm and MediaTek.

CPU Architecture and Performance Gains

Comparing the Kirin 9020, with its 1-core at 2.5GHz, 3-cores at 2.15GHz, and 4-cores at 1.6GHz, the Kirin 9030 shows clear improvements in both clock speed and core count. This new architecture enhances multitasking capabilities and boosts single-thread as well as multi-thread workloads. Early Geekbench scores reported a single-core score of 1,131 and a multi-core score around 4,277. While these scores do not yet surpass top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Dimensity 9300 platforms, they exhibit significant progress over the Kirin 9020.

A well-known technology insider, Digital Chat Station, noted that the tested Kirin 9030 sample was not running at full frequency, suggesting that even higher performance could be expected in the final product. This optimistic outlook raises anticipation for Huawei’s upcoming releases.

Enhanced GPU: Maleoon 935

Huawei has also upgraded the GPU component with the new Maleoon 935, replacing the previous Maleoon 920 chip found in earlier models. This improvement offers a boost in graphics processing power, making the chipset more suitable for gaming, video editing, and other graphics-intensive applications. The Maleoon 935 is expected to deliver smoother frame rates and better visual effects, which will enrich user experience on Huawei’s upcoming devices.

Mate 80 Pro Max Hardware Revelations

The Geekbench listing for the Mate 80 Pro Max reveals 16GB of RAM, a generous capacity aligned with flagship standards. This large memory footprint supports the fast and efficient operation of demanding applications and multitasking. Coupled with the Kirin 9030, the Mate 80 Pro Max could become a true powerhouse in Huawei’s smartphone lineup.

Strategic Importance for Huawei

The Kirin 9030 launch is a crucial milestone for Huawei, particularly amid ongoing global technology challenges. By enhancing its chipset designs and integrating powerful yet efficient components, the company aims to regain ground in the premium smartphone market. The move to a nine-core CPU and stronger GPU gives Huawei an edge to compete against high-end processors from established rivals.

As the Mate 80 series launch event draws near, all eyes are on Huawei to see if the Kirin 9030 will deliver on its promise. If the final performance matches the early benchmark data, this new chipset could mark a significant comeback for Huawei in the global mobile chipset arena.
