Huawei has officially brought the Mate line back to Indonesia with the launch of the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro in Jakarta. The flagship phone is priced at Rp16,999,000 and will go on sale on 24 April, with promotional benefits worth up to Rp7.5 million available until 24 May.

The return matters because the Mate series has been absent from the Indonesian market for more than three years. Huawei presents the device as part of its effort to restore flagship innovation in the local premium segment, while keeping the focus on camera quality, durability, and long-term performance.

A flagship comeback with a clear premium focus

Huawei markets the Mate 80 Pro under the slogan “See It True.” The message reflects the company’s attempt to position the phone as a device for users who want accurate imaging, strong build quality, and AI-supported daily use.

The phone also carries historical weight for Huawei’s smartphone strategy. The Mate family has long served as a showcase for the brand’s major hardware and software ideas, including earlier milestones such as NPU-based AI processing, reverse wireless charging, and satellite connectivity in later generations.

Camera system becomes the main selling point

The largest emphasis is on photography, starting with the True-to-Colour Camera 2.0 system. Huawei says the setup is designed to deliver more natural color reproduction and better detail across different lighting conditions.

The main camera uses a 50MP Ultra Lighting sensor with RYYB technology and a 1/1.28-inch size. Huawei pairs it with a variable aperture from F1.4 to F4.0 and optical image stabilization, a combination aimed at keeping images sharp and stable in low light and indoor scenes.

The rear camera setup is completed by a 48MP Macro Telephoto unit with 4x optical zoom and macro shooting support as close as 5 cm. An additional 40MP ultra-wide camera with F2.2 aperture gives users a wider field of view without sacrificing detail, while AI Composition helps adjust framing automatically.

Durability is built into the design

Huawei says the Mate 80 Pro uses a Super Durable Architecture alongside second-generation Kunlun Glass. The company claims the glass offers up to 20 times better resistance to impact compared with standard glass.

The back panel uses vegan fibre material, which is meant to maintain a premium look while improving toughness. The device also carries IP68 and IP69 certification, meaning it is protected against dust and water, including exposure to high-pressure water spray and extreme temperatures from -20°C to 80°C.

AI tools support daily use

Beyond imaging, Huawei adds several AI-based features to the Mate 80 Pro. AI Remove lets users delete unwanted objects from photos, while AI Best Expression helps select the best facial expression in group shots.

The phone also includes AI Gesture Control for touch-free navigation and AI Messaging for faster communication. These tools reflect Huawei’s effort to make the device more than a conventional flagship, with software designed to support both productivity and convenience.

Display, battery, and charging

The phone uses a 6.75-inch display with thin bezels and a flat-edged design. Huawei wraps the hardware in an Iconic Dual Space Ring concept that is meant to improve grip comfort and reinforce the premium identity of the device.

Power comes from a 5,750mAh battery, supported by 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. That setup is aimed at heavy daily use, including entertainment, communication, and productivity throughout the day.

For Indonesia, the arrival of the Mate 80 Pro signals Huawei’s renewed push in the premium smartphone market. With a price of Rp16,999,000, the company is betting on a combination of camera upgrades, durability features, and AI functions to bring the Mate series back into the attention of high-end buyers.
