Apple is reportedly preparing a more customizable Camera experience in iOS 27, with changes that could let iPhone users rearrange the controls they see most often. Instead of keeping the interface largely fixed, the update is said to give users more freedom to shape the Camera app around their own habits.
The core idea is simple: keep the Camera app familiar, but make it easier to personalize. If the report proves accurate, Apple will be updating one of the most frequently used iPhone apps without changing what it fundamentally does.
More control over the Camera interface
The most notable change centers on the Camera app layout. Users are said to be able to choose which features appear and then decide where they should sit in the interface.
That flexibility would mark a shift from the current setup, where many camera controls are arranged in a relatively fixed way. With iOS 27, Apple appears to be aiming for an experience that feels more personal while still keeping access fast.
The controls mentioned as customizable include flash, exposure, timer, night mode, Live Photos, and resolution. For people who regularly switch between different shooting needs, that could make the Camera app easier to use in everyday situations.
Because the iPhone camera is among the device’s most used features, even a small improvement in access can matter. Being able to move key settings into a more convenient position may reduce the need to search through different parts of the interface.
A new Siri mode inside Camera
Alongside customization, the Camera app is also said to gain a new Siri mode. It would appear next to the usual photo and video options, giving users another path when they open the app.
This mode is reported to use Visual Intelligence to identify objects that the camera points at. It is also linked to text translation, which would make the Camera app useful for more than just capturing images or recording video.
That would push the app toward a more contextual role. In practical terms, Camera could become a place for quick recognition and reading tasks, not only a tool for shooting content.
Part of a broader iOS 27 redesign
The Camera changes are only one part of a wider iOS 27 update. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says Apple plans to introduce the update on June 8, and the release is expected to bring noticeable design changes across several areas of the system.
Siri is said to receive a major overhaul, while system search and apps such as Safari, Image Playground, and Weather are also expected to see visible updates. Apple is reportedly adding new animations and redesigning the tab bar as part of an effort to simplify the Liquid Glass visual language.
Siri in particular is described as being transformed into a full chatbot powered by Google’s Gemini model. The new version is said to appear through the Dynamic Island, and users may be able to switch between Apple’s built-in model and third-party services such as ChatGPT.
There is also a report that Siri could get a standalone app for the first time. If that happens, Siri would become more clearly presented as its own product rather than just a hidden system layer.
Safari and Weather are also getting attention. Safari is said to open with a new start page that places four tabs at the top: favorites, bookmarks, a reading list for saved articles, and browsing history. Weather, meanwhile, is reportedly getting a new Conditions panel on a city’s main page.
Image Playground is said to have been fully redesigned as well. While the visual details have not been explained further, the mention of a complete redesign suggests it is part of the same broader interface refresh.
Among all of these changes, the Camera app may be the one users notice first in daily use. The ability to move controls such as flash, exposure, timer, night mode, Live Photos, and resolution could quickly change how the iPhone is used in both casual photography and the new Siri mode.
