Jasson Domínguez’s Shoulder Recovery Stalls, Yankees Still Don’t Know When He’ll Return

Jasson Domínguez is still recovering from the left shoulder injury that sent him to the injured list after a hard collision at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees outfielder has already undergone a CT scan and MRI, and the team continues to monitor his progress without setting a firm timetable for his return.

Domínguez said the impact looked and felt severe in the moment, even though he was relieved to learn that concussion tests came back negative. He also confirmed that the ball stayed in his glove on the play, calling it “a great catch” despite the painful landing.

How the injury happened

The play came in the top of the first inning against the Rangers, when Brandon Nimmo drove a ball deep to left field. Domínguez tracked it down, jumped near the wall, and crashed into the metal covering over a digital advertising board.

He stayed down for a few moments while head athletic trainer Tim Lentych checked on him. After getting up, he was guided to the medical cart and later sent for imaging on the shoulder that was aching after the collision.

What Domínguez is doing now

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Domínguez has begun increasing his activity, moving beyond dry swings and pool work. He also hit off a tee for the first time since the injury, which marked another small step in the recovery process.

Domínguez said the shoulder still feels uncomfortable when he swings, but he also described clear progress. “It’s getting better,” he said, adding that the process remains “a day-by-day thing” as he works to regain motion and get the shoulder into a stronger position.

No firm return date yet

There is still no concrete timeline for Domínguez’s comeback after he recently received a cortisone injection. Boone previously said the outfielder would be out for at least “a few weeks,” but the club has not locked in a return date.

The Yankees also briefly placed Domínguez in concussion protocol after the violent-looking impact, although that was viewed as a precaution. The more pressing issue remains the shoulder, and the team appears focused on making sure he regains strength before he returns to game action.

Domínguez has already dealt with major setbacks early in his career, including Tommy John surgery after just eight games following his 2023 Major League debut. Even so, Boone said the young outfielder has remained steady in the clubhouse and has continued to earn respect from teammates while working through another injury setback.
