Convicted In Ole Miss Hit-And-Run Death Gets Time-Served Release, Judge Cites Rehabilitation

A Lafayette County Circuit Court judge has ordered the release of the man convicted in the 2022 hit-and-run that killed Ole Miss student Walker Fielder and critically injured another student. The ruling reduces Seth Garron Rokitka’s prison term to time served after the court said his conduct in custody showed rehabilitation.

The amended sentencing order, filed April 8, 2026, says the court found Rokitka “worthy of reconsideration” after reviewing his institutional behavior, education, and treatment efforts. The judge also noted that he had been jailed since his arrest on Oct. 17, 2022, and had served nearly two years.

Sentence reduced after guilty plea

Rokitka originally pleaded guilty in August 2025 to aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an accident in Lafayette County. He was first sentenced to 10 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections on the leaving-the-scene count, plus a five-year suspended sentence with post-release supervision on the aggravated DUI charge.

Those sentences were ordered to run consecutively, making the case one of the more serious consequences tied to the fatal crash. But under the amended order, the 10-year term was reduced to time served and the rest was suspended, pending future good behavior.

Release and supervision terms

The court ordered Rokitka’s immediate release and placed him on five years of reporting post-release supervision. The order also allows him to transfer supervision to Tennessee, where he lived before his incarceration.

Several conditions now apply to his release, including 50 hours of community service with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and random alcohol and drug testing. He must also keep a job, stay law-abiding, avoid alcohol and controlled substances, and not carry weapons.

Case remains tied to 2022 crash

The amended sentence closes one major phase of the case, but it does not change the underlying facts of the deadly hit-and-run that drew public attention in Lafayette County. The court’s decision centered on post-conviction rehabilitation, while the record continues to reflect the harm caused to the two Ole Miss students involved in the crash.

A second man, 18-year-old Tristan Holland of Collierville, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.
