New claims are putting Jason Sudeikis under fresh scrutiny as questions grow about what life was really like on the set of Ted Lasso. The discussion intensified after Hannah Waddingham said she had an “ongoing love-hate relationship” with him because of his habit of rewriting scenes at the last minute.
The comment has now opened the door to broader allegations about Sudeikis’ working style. Multiple insiders told the Daily Mail that the actor’s perfectionist approach could make the atmosphere tense, even on a show that became known for warmth and optimism.
Behind the camera, the tone was reportedly very different
Ted Lasso won praise for its uplifting message, but sources described a more difficult reality during production. One insider said Sudeikis had a reputation in Hollywood for being hard to work with and claimed the reaction to Waddingham’s comment was not surprising.
That source said many people in the industry also had a “love-hate relationship” with him. The allegation reflects a recurring theme in the reporting: admiration for Sudeikis’ talent, paired with frustration over how closely he controlled the work.
Season three reportedly became especially strained

Sudeikis is described as highly selective
The reports also portray Sudeikis as someone who operates on his own terms outside the set. One source said he avoids obligations that are not part of his contracts and does not like surprise appearances at fan or media events unless he is paid to do them.
That same insider said he is selective about both the creative side and the financial side of projects. According to the source, he will not “waste his time” unless the pay is right and he will not simply partner with anyone.
A 2021 report from The Hollywood Reporter estimated that he earned $1 million per episode for season three. Reports ahead of season four suggested that amount had increased to around $3 million per episode.
The image off set appears more guarded
Away from work, insiders say Sudeikis tries to keep a relatively ordinary routine despite his fame. One source said he dislikes press obligations and avoids the celebrity side of Hollywood whenever possible.
“He hates press and the ‘fame’ side of things like doing red carpets,” the insider said. The source added that he prefers to stay on his own schedule and focus on his personal life.

That source described him as “extremely hands-on” and a micro-manager, while also noting that he is “talented, funny and genuinely kind away from set.” The same insider said his attention to detail can sometimes make the workplace stressful, especially for performers who prefer consistency.
Waddingham reportedly likes preparation and a stable plan when approaching scenes, which can make last-minute changes difficult. Still, the source said the situation has not escalated into anything close to a breakdown, and there are no signs that anyone wants to leave the show.
His rise in fame came alongside public personal strain
Sudeikis’ profile surged with Ted Lasso, but his personal life also became a major part of the public conversation. Before the series premiered in 2020, he was already well known from his long run on Saturday Night Live and his relationship with Olivia Wilde.
After the show became a hit, he won two consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, along with two more Emmys as executive producer. At the same time, his split from Wilde after nine years together drew intense tabloid attention.
Wilde later began dating Harry Styles, which led to speculation and cheating allegations that she has denied. The pair’s custody dispute over their son, Otis, and daughter, Daisy, also played out publicly before they settled on joint custody in September 2023, with Sudeikis agreeing to pay $27,500 monthly in child support.
