Ron Perlman is heading to Game Changer for a guest appearance that Dropout has kept tightly under wraps. The actor will show up in Episode 3 of the show’s ongoing eighth season, which debuts tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
The secrecy fits the format of the show, where the fun often comes from not knowing what is coming next. In this case, the surprise lands on the players themselves, including Raphael Chestang, Lily Du, Katie Marovitch, Grant O’Brien, Rekha Shankar and Siobhan Thompson.
A familiar face for TV audiences
Perlman has built a long screen career across television and film. He is known for Sons of Anarchy, Beauty and the Beast, and Hand of God, and he currently appears in Apple TV’s adaptation of Cape Fear.
His recent television work also includes Poker Face, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Fallout. In film, Perlman has often worked with Guillermo del Toro, including the first two Hellboy films, Nightmare Alley, and Pacific Rim.
Season 8 keeps building momentum
Game Changer is hosted by Dropout CEO Sam Reich, who also executive produces the series alongside David Kerns. This season’s cast includes Brennan Lee Mulligan, Vic Michaelis, Lou Wilson and Jacob Wysocki.
The season’s co-executive producers are Chloe Badner, Elaine Carroll, Ryan Creamer, Sam Geer, Mulligan and Paul Robalino, with Jazzy Collins serving as casting director. The 10-episode season is releasing biweekly.
Game Changer and fellow Dropout series Very Important People recently submitted for Emmy consideration in multiple categories, including outstanding game show for Game Changer.
In a late May FYC conversation with Variety’s Clayton Davis at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, Reich said, “Streamers are trying to be everything to anyone. We’re trying to be something for someone. When you’re paying seven bucks a month for Dropout, you’re probably hardcore about us.”
