Ayaneo’s Tiny Gaming Handheld Is Getting A Bigger Upgrade, And That Changes The Stakes

Ayaneo has confirmed that the Pocket Micro 2 is in development, signaling a direct follow-up to the Pocket Micro and a possible step up in performance for the company’s smallest horizontal handheld. The announcement matters because Ayaneo is not only revisiting an existing design, but also trying to keep a compact, premium segment alive as Android gaming devices continue to crowd the market.

The first Pocket Micro arrived more than two years ago with a design that echoes the Game Boy Micro. Ayaneo later expanded the lineup with the Pocket Micro Classic in 2025, a lower-cost version that dropped the thumbsticks.

A stronger chip is the main clue

Ayaneo shared the Pocket Micro 2 tease through its social media channels, but it has not shown the device or published technical details yet. Even so, the company has indicated that the new model will use a more powerful processor than the Helio G99 found in the Pocket Micro and Pocket Micro Classic.

That hint points to a meaningful shift in the device’s positioning. Based on current patterns, the most likely candidate is the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, the same chip used in the Retroid Pocket G2 before that device was discontinued.

Materials may help separate it from cheaper variants

There is also a hardware detail that suggests the Pocket Micro 2 will stay close to the original’s premium approach. The first-generation model used an aluminum shell and a glass front, and those materials are said to be carried over to the successor as well.

That makes a recently surfaced horizontal device called Ayaneo Bitwave less likely to be the Pocket Micro 2. Bitwave was shown with a polycarbonate case and no thumbsticks, which makes it look closer to a more affordable version of the Pocket Micro Classic.

Ayaneo has not officially announced Bitwave either. Still, the device could end up as a cheaper offshoot of Pocket Micro 2, and it may even appear under the Konkr sub-brand.

Ayaneo still has more hardware in the pipeline

Pocket Micro 2 is not the only product Ayaneo has kept under wraps. The company also introduced the Konkr Pocket Block in May, but it has not yet revealed the handheld’s specifications, pricing, or availability.

That broader pattern suggests Ayaneo is building a layered lineup, with compact premium models at one end and lower-cost options at the other. For now, the key point is simple: the Pocket Micro 2 is on the way, even if its final design and launch schedule remain undisclosed.
