Claude appeared to suffer a short outage on Tuesday, with users quickly flagging errors across Anthropic’s AI tools. Reports on Downdetector surged past 2,000 by 1:27 p.m. ET, before dropping sharply after a fix was rolled out.
The incident affected more than one part of the Claude ecosystem. Anthropic’s status page said it was investigating elevated errors across many models, as well as the Claude web interface, API, Claude Code and Claude Cowork.
What Anthropic Said
According to the company’s status updates, Anthropic first acknowledged the issue just before 1:30 p.m. ET. Later updates said the company had attempted a fix and was monitoring the results, though issues were still being seen with a couple of models.
Why It Matters
For users, the problem appeared to be widespread enough to affect both the consumer-facing web experience and developer tools. That makes the outage notable not just for Claude chat users, but also for teams relying on the API and Claude Code.
CNET said it had reached out to Anthropic for more details as the situation developed. The company’s status page continued to be the main public source of updates while the issue was being monitored.
