Sony is preparing another finish for the WH-1000XM6, and the new option is aimed at giving the premium wireless headset a warmer look without changing its price. The upcoming Sandstone variant has already been spotted ahead of its official rollout, making it the fifth color in the lineup.
The color is scheduled for global availability on 19 May. It joins Black, Midnight Blue, Platinum Silver, and Sand Pink, extending Sony’s effort to keep the WH-1000XM6 range visually fresh.
A warmer take on Platinum Silver
Sandstone is described as noticeably more yellow-toned than the existing Platinum Silver finish. Visually, it sits closer to the Silver or Platinum Silver seen on the WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM3 than to the newer Platinum Silver on the WH-1000XM6.
That shift gives the headset a softer and warmer appearance. For buyers who care about design as much as function, the new shade may stand out simply because it feels different without altering the product itself.
How the color information surfaced
The existence of the Sandstone version first came up in early April through a claim by billbil-kun. At the time, the leaker said Sony was preparing a global Sandstone variant, but no images were available yet.
That changed when The Walkman Blog showed images of the color ahead of the official launch. With both the leak and the visuals now aligned, the new finish appears to be nearing release rather than remaining a distant rumor.
Pricing stays aligned with the rest of the line
Sony is expected to keep Sandstone at the same MSRP as the other WH-1000XM6 versions: US$459. That means the new color should not carry any premium over the existing variants.
The pricing approach keeps the WH-1000XM6 positioned firmly in the high-end wireless headphone segment. It also suggests that Sony is treating Sandstone as a style update, not as a separate tier of product.
Part of a broader color strategy
Sandstone is not the first new color Sony has added to the WH-1000XM6 lineup. Sand Pink arrived in February, following a pattern similar to Smoky Pink on the WH-1000XM5.
That history shows Sony is still actively refining the visual side of the series. Rather than changing the core hardware, the company appears to be using color options to keep the model line appealing to a wider range of buyers.
