Citizen Debuts A Hardier Yacht Timer With Full Regatta Tools And A 200-Meter Build

Citizen is pushing its yacht-racing credentials further with the new Promaster Wave Tracker series, a lineup designed to keep the essentials visible, accessible, and practical during competition. The watches combine a rugged build with a layout aimed at regatta use, while still remaining suitable for everyday wear.

The most noticeable change is the way Citizen arranges the display. A high-resolution MIP digital screen sits at 12 o’clock for quick access to key information, while an analog mode subdial at 6 o’clock helps keep the dial balanced and easy to read.

Built for race-day timing

Wave Tracker is not presented as a lifestyle watch with sailing-inspired styling alone. Citizen gives it a dedicated RACE mode that automatically starts the stopwatch after the countdown ends, reducing the need for extra steps at the critical start of a race.

The watch also includes a 1/100-second chronograph, world time, perpetual calendar, alarm timer, local time support, daylight saving time adjustment, and a 12/24-hour display option. For sailors, the more specialized tools are just as important, including tide graphs for 203 global locations, sunrise and sunset data, and moon phase information.

Navigation support on the bezel

Citizen also gives the watch a functional outer layer. The bidirectional rotating bezel and inner ring can be used as a sailing compass to help determine azimuth angles and the relationship between the sails and wind direction.

That utility-focused approach is reinforced by legibility features. The watch uses highly luminous hands and markers, a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and an LED light to improve visibility in changing conditions.

Power, durability, and daily use

At the center of the series is the Eco-Drive Caliber U812. Because it runs on light, the movement reduces the need for battery changes and offers about three years of power reserve in power-saving mode.

The watch is also built to handle harsher environments. Water resistance is rated to 200 meters, and magnetic resistance is listed as Type 1 magnetic resistance.

Four versions, one technical platform

Citizen is launching the series in four distinct colorways and case combinations. The JV3000-13E comes with an orange urethane strap and matching bezel, while the JV3001-53E pairs a steel bracelet with a black dial and black bezel.

The lineup also includes the JV3002-51E, which uses a gold-toned case and bracelet with a green-and-black bezel, and the JV3006-50L, which features a dark blue dial and blue-and-black bezel on a steel bracelet. Although the styling differs, all four share the same core specifications.

Citizen also notes the use of recycled dial components in certain parts of the series, adding another layer of material consideration without shifting the focus away from functionality. The watches are set to reach the US and Japan in June, with availability in Europe to follow later.
