ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 IPL Puts 32GB RAM And A Spare SSD Slot In A Compact Business Laptop

Lenovo is taking a notably flexible approach with the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 IPL, a 14-inch business laptop that stands out less for a single headline feature and more for how many useful upgrades it keeps open. Alongside 32 GB of RAM and storage options up to 1 TB, the machine also includes a second M.2 2280 slot, giving it a configuration that is unusual in this class.

That extra storage slot is the key detail that makes the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 IPL more interesting than a typical thin-and-light work laptop. Lenovo has left the second M.2 2280 bay empty while still making it compatible with PCIe 4.0, which means users can expand storage later instead of being locked into the initial configuration.

Built for longer use

For professionals who work with large project files, business documents, or many apps at once, this kind of design adds practical value. It also reduces the pressure to move to a more expensive model just because storage needs grow over time.

The memory and storage options reinforce that approach. Lenovo offers the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 IPL with 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB SSD configurations, while the 32 GB RAM option gives the laptop a more serious starting point for demanding work.

Intel Panther Lake support is part of the plan

Lenovo is also lining up support for Intel Panther Lake processors in this family. That places the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 IPL among the laptops prepared for Intel’s newer mobile platform, which may help keep the device relevant for a longer cycle.

The combination of large memory, upgrade-friendly storage, and a newer processor direction suggests a clear focus on business users who want a compact laptop without giving up serviceability. In that sense, Lenovo is aiming at buyers who value both immediate performance and future flexibility.

Display choices are more complicated

The screen story is less straightforward. Lenovo’s PSREF lists an IPS 1800p panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness, and 100% sRGB coverage, but that specification is not yet widely available to buyers.

At the moment, the versions reaching the market still use a more modest IPS 1200p display with a 60 Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of brightness, and 45% NTSC coverage. That difference matters, especially on a 14-inch laptop where the display is one of the most important parts of the buying decision.

Pricing varies by market

The ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 IPL has already appeared in several regions with different starting prices. Lenovo lists it from AUD 1,619 in Australia, €1,129-€1,244 in the Eurozone, HKD 8,411 in Hong Kong, MYR 4,968 in Malaysia, SGD 1,687 in Singapore, and £1,045 in the UK.

Lenovo also says the laptop will soon arrive officially in the United States and Canada. Even before that launch, it has already shown up on Amazon US, where a Core Ultra 7 355 version with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD is priced at $1,679.
