Plex Lifetime Pass Drops Its Best Price Soon, Then Jumps From $250 to $750

Plex is making one of its most expensive subscription decisions harder to ignore. Starting July 1, the company’s Lifetime Pass will jump from $250 to $750 for new buyers, turning a long-considered one-time purchase into a much steeper commitment.

That change matters most for people who have been waiting to buy Plex Pass for their personal media setups. The old price is still available until July 1, but after that deadline, the lifetime option will cost three times as much.

What changes and what does not

The higher price applies only to new customers buying the lifetime plan. Anyone who already purchased Plex’s Lifetime Pass will keep access without paying anything extra.

Monthly and yearly Plex Pass subscribers are also unaffected by this change. Plex still offers a free tier as well as a monthly plan priced at $6.99, so the price increase is aimed specifically at the lifetime option.

Why the lifetime plan has mattered

For many Plex users, the appeal of Lifetime Pass has always been simple: pay once and avoid recurring charges. That model has been especially attractive for people who rely on Plex to manage and stream their personal media libraries across devices.

The package includes premium features such as hardware transcoding, offline downloads, intro and credit skipping, and some remote streaming capabilities. Those tools are most useful for users who frequently access self-hosted media servers from different devices or locations.

Why Plex says the price is going up

Plex says the higher price is meant to better reflect the current value of Plex Pass. The company says the product has grown as its software and services have evolved.

Plex also says the adjustment will help support continued investment in building and maintaining its personal media software. In other words, the company is presenting the change as part of ongoing development rather than a shift that affects existing lifetime subscribers.

A broader pricing reset is already underway

The Lifetime Pass increase is not the only pricing change Plex has made recently. The platform has also raised the cost of its Remote Streaming Pass, moving it from $1.99 per month to $2.99 per month and from $19.99 per year to $29.99 per year.

Taken together, the changes suggest Plex is reworking how it prices access to its services. Even so, the company is keeping the older lifetime pricing in place until July 1, which leaves a short window for anyone who still wants to secure the $250 rate before it disappears.
