Apple’s next major software showcase may be shaped as much by generative AI infrastructure as by the updates themselves. A newly spotted subdomain, genai.apple.com, has appeared inside the company’s domain setup and is now drawing attention ahead of WWDC.
The address is not publicly usable yet and still returns a connection timeout when opened. That usually indicates the subdomain has been registered but has not been pointed to its final destination.
A new signal ahead of WWDC
The appearance of genai.apple.com comes only weeks before WWDC begins on June 8. Apple has already signaled that the event will include updates about AI progress across its software platforms.
MacRumors reported that the subdomain is visible on Apple’s DNS infrastructure. The “Gen AI” naming also strengthens the impression that generative AI will be a central part of Apple’s presentation this year.
Apple already has a dedicated page for Apple Intelligence, so the purpose of this new domain is still unclear. Even so, the separate naming suggests Apple may be preparing a more specific identity or information hub for its generative AI efforts.
WWDC could frame the next wave of software updates
The biggest software updates expected around WWDC include iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Those releases are expected to bring several new features tied to Apple Intelligence.
Apple has typically kept its plans quiet before major events, especially when it comes to AI. Because of that, even small changes in web infrastructure are often read as early clues about where the company is heading.
This new domain now lines up with rising expectations for the conference. Together, the domain activity and the WWDC timing make Apple’s AI focus look increasingly deliberate.
Siri is expected to take on a more conversational role
One of the most closely watched changes is a more personal Siri that can better understand what is on the screen. Reports say Apple is developing Siri to behave more like a modern chatbot such as ChatGPT.
That direction could lead to more natural two-way conversations through a dedicated Siri app. If it reaches users, the shift would move Siri further away from a traditional voice assistant model and closer to a flexible AI conversation tool.
The Siri update is also said to fit into Apple’s wider effort to expand AI at the system level. The goal is not only to handle short commands, but to understand device context more effectively.
Visual Intelligence and Photos are also in line for upgrades
Apple is also reported to be rebuilding Visual Intelligence, which first arrived with the iPhone 16 in 2024. At present, the feature uses services such as ChatGPT to analyze photos and provide information.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to embed Visual Intelligence more deeply into the camera app on iOS 27 as a dedicated Siri mode. The final details are still unknown, but the move points to a larger role for visual AI inside the operating system.
The Photos app is also expected to receive a major boost. Gurman previously reported that iOS 27 could include AI tools that let users expand, enhance, and reshape images directly inside Photos.
If that arrives, Apple users would get editing capabilities closer to what is already available in competing AI apps and platforms. It would also extend AI into a tool people use every day, rather than limiting it to a digital assistant.
Third-party models may support Apple’s broader AI push
Apple’s AI expansion does not appear to depend only on its own internal models. Google has confirmed that the Gemini AI model will help support future Apple Intelligence features.
That statement came from Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian during Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas. It suggests Apple may rely more heavily on outside AI models as it broadens the reach of its own technology.
With the new genai.apple.com domain, the expected WWDC AI announcements, and the reported work on Siri, Visual Intelligence, and Photos, Apple’s direction is becoming easier to read. The company has not explained the purpose of the new domain, but the signals so far point to generative AI taking a central role at this year’s WWDC.
