Telegram has returned to Wear OS with a much fuller experience than smartwatch users may remember. The app now lets users open complete chat threads, not just glance at notifications or short previews.
The update marks a notable shift for smartwatch messaging because it brings more of Telegram’s core functions to the wrist. Telegram also expanded its wearable support at the same time by launching a dedicated app for Apple Watch.
More than notifications on a smartwatch
On the new Wear OS version, users can scroll through full conversations and read long messages without reaching for a phone. Telegram says the goal is to make chat history more accessible and easier to follow on a smartwatch screen.
The app also supports richer media viewing than before. Users can view photos, videos, video messages, and location previews directly inside conversations.
Voice notes are fully supported
Voice messages are now part of the Wear OS experience as well. Users can listen to received voice notes and record new ones from the smartwatch.
That addition makes the app more practical for quick replies and hands-free communication. It also moves the Wear OS version closer to the behavior of the phone app, rather than a basic companion screen.
Chat management is built in
Telegram also brought several chat controls to the wrist. Users can pin important chats, mute conversations, and delete chats directly from the smartwatch.
Those tools make the app more useful for day-to-day messaging, especially for people who want to handle simple tasks without opening their phone. The broader feature set makes Telegram feel more complete on wearable devices than it did in earlier versions.
A return after years away
The comeback is especially notable because Telegram was removed from the Play Store in 2021. Since then, Android smartwatch users have mostly relied on notifications or third-party workarounds to check Telegram from their wrists.
With the official app back on Wear OS, users of Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch, and other Wear OS devices once again have native access to Telegram. That gives the platform a more direct and flexible messaging option on smartwatch hardware.
Telegram’s June 2026 update also included other improvements outside wearable support. These include more advanced rich text support for bots, AI Guardians for group moderation, link support in polling options, and the ability to open Markdown (.md) files directly in the Telegram browser.
Together, the changes show Telegram widening its footprint across devices while adding practical tools for communication and productivity. On Wear OS, the official return stands out because it restores full chat access, voice notes, media viewing, and basic chat controls to the smartwatch experience.
