Dead Or Alive 6 Last Round Faces Review Backlash Over Its Monetization Model

Dead Or Alive 6: Last Round arrived as a supposed definitive edition, but the reaction on Steam quickly turned hostile. Instead of being welcomed as a complete package, the re-release has been flooded with negative reviews and now sits at 78% bad feedback.

The sharpest criticism is not aimed only at the fighting itself. Players are questioning the way the publisher has packaged old content, revived DLC, and reintroduced the game with costs that many see as too high for what is being offered.

A definitive edition that still feels incomplete

As part of the Dead or Alive 30th anniversary celebration, Last Round was positioned as the most complete version of Dead or Alive 6. It adds photo mode and a large amount of DLC costumes and outfits, bringing the total to around 440 DLC items.

That scale has only intensified the backlash. According to IsThereAnyDeal, the full DLC collection is valued at around $1,707.60, before the base game price is even counted.

Why the business model is drawing heat

The main complaint on Steam centers on the decision to re-release the game without a clear upgrade path. Many players argue the title should have been updated instead of being sold again as a new edition.

That frustration is made worse by the lack of a free upgrade route or a major discount for owners of the original Dead or Alive 6. With the 2019 release removed from the digital store, new players now have little choice but to buy the newer edition if they want access.

The combat is still solid, but that is not enough

Outside the monetization debate, the core gameplay in Last Round is still described as close to the original Dead or Alive 6. Performance and fighting systems are generally considered strong, but some major features are still missing.

Rollback netcode is not included, and cross-platform play is also absent. For a fighting game that depends heavily on connection quality and an active community, those omissions have added to the disappointment.

Returning characters, missing guests, and higher DLC pricing

Dead Or Alive 6: Last Round does include several previously released DLC characters. Nyotengu, Phase 4, Momiji, Rachel, and Tamaki are all part of the re-release, alongside new costumes, hundreds of cosmetic items, and season pass content.

Not every guest fighter made the cut, however. Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond are not included in the re-release, leaving their absence as a sensitive point for long-time players who expected them to return.

The pricing for add-on content has also changed. DLC characters that were previously sold for $4 are now priced at $8 each, which makes collecting the additional content even more expensive.

Core Fighters remains free, but only in a limited form

The game still offers Core Fighters as a free-to-play option, but it comes with only a small roster of characters. That leaves it far short of the full experience available in the paid edition.

For players who want everything Last Round has to offer, the combination of the base game, separate characters, cosmetics, and other DLC can become a repeated and costly investment. Many reviews still praise the fighting itself, but they argue the surrounding business model overwhelms the re-release.
