Edward Kenway Returns on a Bigger Scale, Black Flag Resynced Rebuilds the Caribbean for a New Era

Ubisoft has launched Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced worldwide, bringing Edward Kenway back with a full rebuild rather than a simple visual upgrade. The remake arrives with updated combat, deeper sea exploration, fresh narrative material, and a modern technical foundation built to expand one of the franchise’s most memorable settings.

The move places the game in a different category from a basic remaster. By rebuilding it from the ground up on the latest version of Anvil Engine, Ubisoft has aimed to sharpen the core of the experience while keeping the pirate-era atmosphere that defined the original release.

A rebuild centered on playability

Ubisoft says Black Flag Resynced uses the newest Anvil Engine to deliver more detailed visuals and to refine the systems that shape moment-to-moment play. The result is a version designed for current hardware and current player expectations.

Combat now uses a more responsive parry-based system, while stealth and parkour have also been improved. Sea exploration and naval battles receive deeper treatment as well, giving the Caribbean voyage more room to breathe than before.

Edward Kenway’s story returns to the Golden Age of Piracy

The remake keeps the setting of the original game and returns players to the Golden Age of Piracy. Edward Kenway once again takes center stage as a pirate captain caught in the long conflict between Assassins and Templars.

His journey across the Caribbean brings him into contact with well-known pirate figures including Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Calico Jack. The campaign remains focused on ambition, survival, and the shifting fortunes of the pirate world.

Where the game is available

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is available through Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The Steam version is also listed as Steam Deck Verified.

Ubisoft says an internet connection is only needed during the initial download process. After installation, the main campaign can be played offline.

Music, trailer, and edition details

To mark the launch, Ubisoft also re-released the iconic Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag trailer first shown at E3 2013. The new version was made with the creative team that previously worked on the original Horizon Trailer.

With support from the latest Anvil Engine, the trailer presents the Caribbean and its pirate adventure with more modern visual quality. Brian Tyler returns with the original score elements, including the Black Flag Main Theme.

Stephen Lukach has also prepared 22 new tracks made specifically for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The album Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (Original Game Soundtrack) is scheduled for release on 10 July 2026.

Ubisoft is offering two editions of the game. The Deluxe Edition is available digitally across all platforms and includes the base game, the Master Assassin Character Pack, and the Master Assassin Naval Pack.

The Collector’s Edition includes everything in the Deluxe Edition plus physical extras such as an Edward Kenway figure, a wearable Assassin-themed metal brooch, an exclusive SteelBook, a cloth map, and other collectible merchandise.

Medcom.id notes that the launch shows how Ubisoft is blending nostalgia with major updates. Rather than simply reviving Edward Kenway’s adventure, the remake expands it with new visuals, refreshed audio, and additional content.
