Bob Odenkirk’s action run is not slowing down, even after Normal moved from theaters to streaming. Magnolia Home Entertainment has now lined up a home video release for the R-rated thriller, giving the film a new push with 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions arriving on Jul. 14, 2026.
The new release matters because Normal has already built real momentum. The film premiered in Midnight Madness at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, then went on to earn a 77% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes after critics responded to its mix of brutal action and darkly comic small-town chaos.
What the film is about
Odenkirk stars as Ulysses, a substitute sheriff posted to the town of Normal after a stretch of marital strain and moral injury. When a bank robbery goes wrong, he uncovers a criminal conspiracy and finds himself fighting for survival as the town turns on him.
The setup has drawn comparisons to Fargo, John Wick, and Hot Fuzz, which fits the film’s blend of violence, absurdity, and reluctant-hero energy. Magnolia Pictures handled the U.S. theatrical release on Apr. 17, 2026, and the movie reached streaming a little more than a month later.

The release also includes an HDR presentation of the film, a Dolby Atmos audio track, and optional English SDH and Spanish subtitles for the main feature. Those details should make the disc package attractive to collectors, especially because the film’s visual style and sound design were a big part of its appeal.
There is also another reason the new release may matter. Bob Odenkirk and director Ben Wheatley have both said they would like to turn Normal into a franchise if demand is strong enough, and Derek Kolstad told Deadline in September that the team was working through ideas for a possible follow-up.
For now, the sequel idea remains unconfirmed, but the new physical media rollout gives Normal another shot at building an audience. If the response is strong enough, the film could end up looking less like a one-off and more like the start of something bigger.
