DJI’s next Osmo Pocket model is shaping up to be more than a routine refresh. Early signals point to a device built around vertical video first, with a telephoto lens that is said to go beyond 3x optical zoom.
That shift matters for creators who publish mainly on TikTok and Reels. Instead of treating portrait video as an afterthought, Osmo Pocket 4P appears to be designed for it from the start.
A clearer push toward vertical creation
DJI’s official teaser on Weibo suggests a more focused approach to mobile content. It is also the first time the company has attached the Pro label to its handheld gimbal series.
That branding change suggests the update is not limited to a cosmetic redesign. The core features tied to modern content production also appear to be getting a more serious upgrade.
For social creators, the emphasis on portrait mode is the most visible departure. Vertical capture is no longer presented as an optional format, but as the primary use case.
Telephoto becomes the standout feature
The most eye-catching detail is the new telephoto lens. DJI is said to be pushing past standard 3x optical zoom, and the teaser material shows images staying clear beyond that range.
If that behavior holds in the final product, the telephoto capability could become one of the main reasons to choose this model. It would not only help frame subjects more tightly, but also add flexibility for travel clips, quick field coverage, and street-style shooting.
That direction makes Osmo Pocket 4P look less like a compact vlogging camera and more like a broader mobile production tool. The lens choice signals that DJI wants the device to serve creators who need more than a simple pocket camera.
Other features that have surfaced
Xtra’s Instagram account also hinted at 4K video at 240fps. If that specification makes it into the final device, it would give Osmo Pocket 4P a high-resolution slow-motion option suited to short-form video.
The same leak points to 128GB of internal storage. Built-in capacity at that level would be useful for users who want to start recording immediately without leaning too heavily on extra storage.
Another hint involves auto-transfer support. That type of feature typically matters for creators who want to move footage quickly to another device and keep publishing workflows moving.
The display may also receive a notable update. It has been described as “more flexible,” with signs that it could be pulled out or tilted, although the exact mechanism has not been explained.
Launch signals are getting stronger
Momentum around the device is building beyond teaser images. Several influencers in China are reported to have already reviewed the camera, which usually suggests that an official launch is not far away.
That also raises questions for current Osmo Pocket 4 users. DJI has not clarified whether older accessories or batteries will work with Osmo Pocket 4P.
The uncertainty could matter to buyers who have already invested in DJI’s existing accessory ecosystem. For that group, waiting for compatibility details may be the safer choice before making a purchase.
A different name may appear in the US
There is also a separate wrinkle for the United States market. Because of ongoing regulatory issues, Osmo Pocket 4P may be sold under a different brand name, possibly through Xtra Technology.
That possibility adds another layer of complexity to the rollout. The same device could appear with different identities depending on the market and the regulatory situation it faces.
For now, DJI is still operating through teasers and feature hints. Even so, the combination of portrait-first video, telephoto beyond 3x optical zoom, 4K 240fps recording, 128GB internal storage, auto-transfer, and a more flexible display already makes Osmo Pocket 4P one of the most closely watched compact cameras on the horizon.
