The Detroit Tigers are back home with a chance to stop a rough stretch, and they will lean on Tarik Skubal to do it against the Chicago White Sox. Detroit started June with real momentum, but that early surge has faded into four losses in five games.
The latest setback came after a pair of division rivals slowed the Tigers down, first with a de facto two-game sweep by the Cleveland Guardians and then a series loss to the Houston Astros. Now the next challenge is a White Sox team that has been one of the more surprising clubs in 2026 and is hanging near the top of the AL Central.
Skubal gets another divisional test
Skubal is making his return to the mound after coming off the injured list, and his last outing was not the sharpest version of him. Against Cleveland, the ace left-hander allowed three runs, two earned, over 4 2/3 innings in a 3-1 loss.
He gave up five hits, including a home run, and also walked one batter while striking out four. Detroit will need a cleaner start this time as it opens a three-game weekend series at Comerica Park.
Fedde brings a different look for Chicago
Chicago will counter with Erick Fedde, who is making just his second start in his last six appearances. His most recent start came against the Twins on June 3, when he worked five scoreless innings for his first win of the season.
Fedde also saw the Tigers earlier in June, but in relief. That outing went four innings and ended with two runs allowed in a game the White Sox eventually won in extras, 4-3.
What the matchup looks like
Friday’s opener puts two teams with very different recent paths in the same spot, with Detroit trying to regain its footing and Chicago trying to keep pace in the division race. The game is set for 6:40 p.m. ET at Comerica Park and will be carried on Detroit SportsNet, MLB.TV, and the Tigers Radio Network.
