200MP Leica Camera Meets an 8,000mAh Battery, Xiaomi 17 Max Raises the Flagship Bar

Xiaomi has widened its flagship lineup in China with the Xiaomi 17 Max, a model that puts two headline features front and center: a Leica-branded 200 MP camera and a 8,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery. That combination gives the phone an unusual profile for a premium device, with imaging and endurance treated as equal priorities.

The device is positioned below the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, but it still carries hardware that sits firmly in flagship territory. Xiaomi says the battery can last more than two days under normal use, while also retaining 80 percent health after 1,600 charging cycles, which the company equates to more than four years of daily use.

Flagship power with aggressive charging

Battery capacity is only part of the story here. Xiaomi 17 Max supports 100-watt wired fast charging, 50-watt wireless charging, and reverse wired charging at up to 22.5 watts for powering other devices.

That charging package helps the large battery feel less cumbersome in daily use. It also reinforces Xiaomi’s attempt to make endurance a core selling point rather than a compromise hidden behind the phone’s slimmed-down position in the lineup.

A camera setup built around resolution

The rear camera system uses three sensors. The main camera is a 200 MP Leica unit based on Samsung’s HP9 sensor, paired with OIS, an f/1.65 aperture, and dynamic range reaching 13.5EV.

Alongside it, Xiaomi includes a 50 MP telephoto camera and a 50 MP ultrawide camera. The telephoto lens supports up to 3x optical zoom and also adds macro photography, giving the device broader shooting flexibility than a simple high-resolution main sensor alone.

On the front, the phone carries a 32 MP selfie camera placed inside a centered punch-hole cutout. That arrangement keeps the display clean while still providing a high-resolution front-facing option.

Large AMOLED panel and premium hardware

The display measures 6.9 inches and uses an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,608 x 1,200 pixels. It also supports a 120 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness up to 3,500 nits, which should help the panel stay visible in bright conditions.

Xiaomi also places an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen. The inclusion of that sensor fits the premium positioning of the device and adds another layer to the overall flagship experience.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Max runs on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is paired with LPDDR5X RAM of up to 16 GB and UFS 4.1 storage of up to 512 GB, while software duties are handled by HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.

Durability, colors, and pricing

Xiaomi has also equipped the phone with IP68/IP69 certification for water and dust resistance. That makes the device more than just a specs showcase, since the company is also signaling a focus on durability.

In China, the Xiaomi 17 Max comes in Black, White, and Blue. It is offered in two memory configurations, as shown below:

VariantPrice
12/256 GB4.799 yuan
16/512 GB5.799 yuan

With its combination of a 200 MP Leica camera, a 8,000 mAh battery, and flagship-class charging and performance, the Xiaomi 17 Max adds more pressure to a market where large batteries and strong imaging systems are becoming increasingly important at the high end.
