Xiaomi’s latest push in the upper mid-range is built around an unusual balance: a 7,000 mAh battery, a slim 8.3 mm body, and a Leica-tuned camera experience that is meant to feel more alive. The Xiaomi 17T Pro stands out because large-battery phones usually come with thicker frames, yet this model keeps a premium profile while adding a feature called Leica Live Moment.
A slimmer approach to a bigger battery
The most striking detail on the Xiaomi 17T Pro is not only the battery size, but the fact that Xiaomi kept the handset thin despite it. Compared with the 15T Pro, Xiaomi says the new model is only slightly thicker at 8.3 mm, even though the battery capacity rises sharply from 5,500 mAh to 7,000 mAh.
That combination is paired with 100W wired charging on the Pro model. Xiaomi claims the battery is designed to last through a full day in many usage scenarios and can refill from empty in less than an hour.
Leica Live Moment changes the camera feel
Xiaomi is also using software to make the camera experience more distinct. Leica Live Moment is available on both the 17T Pro and the 17T, and it works in a way similar to Live Photos on the iPhone, but with Leica styling built in.
When the shutter is pressed, the phone records a short clip before and after the photo is captured. That gives users a moving snapshot of the moment, which can be useful when a subject moves quickly or blinks at the wrong time.
For social media use, each photo also includes a short video clip that can be reused. Xiaomi adds Leica-inspired processing filters as well, aiming to give the output a more vivid look.
Premium hardware without a heavy design
The company keeps the design language clean on both models with an aluminum unibody and flat displays. The 17T Pro uses a 6.8-inch OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, while the standard 17T comes with a 6.6-inch OLED panel that reaches up to 120Hz.
Both screens have thin bezels and can reach up to 3,500 nits of brightness. The Pro display can also go down to 1 nit, which should make it more comfortable in dark environments.
Chipsets and camera setup stay central
Under the hood, Xiaomi uses MediaTek Dimensity chips for both phones. The Xiaomi 17T Pro is powered by the Dimensity 9500, while the 17T uses the Dimensity 8500 Ultra.
The camera setup also remains a major part of the pitch. Both devices include a 115mm periscope lens that Xiaomi says is well suited for portrait photography, and the 17T Pro gets a new main camera sensor developed by Xiaomi itself.
Xiaomi positions the 17T Pro as a meaningful upgrade over the 15T Pro. Along with the larger battery, it also brings newer silicon and the new main camera.
Faster T series cycle and software support
The 17T and 17T Pro arrive only eight months after the previous generation, marking a faster T series cadence. Xiaomi says the accelerated launch is tied to progress in its imaging cooperation with Leica, which now extends beyond the camera hardware and into software.
Both phones run Android 16 with HyperOS on top. Xiaomi emphasizes fast, smooth operation, built-in Google AI features, and strong multitasking and customization options, although it still leaves some small software caveats.
Markets and pricing
Xiaomi says the 17T and 17T Pro will go on sale in Europe and in several Asian markets, including Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. The standard model is expected to cost around $500 to $600, while the Pro version is positioned at about $800 to $950.
In Southeast Asia, pricing is likely to sit toward the lower end of that range. Europe is expected to see higher prices, following Xiaomi’s usual pattern outside China, where import duties and third-party carrier costs can push the final tag upward.
