Lenovo has introduced a new child-focused AI device that puts parental control at the center while still offering basic communication and learning tools. The Lenovo AI Companion Device is designed as a middle ground between a children’s smartwatch and a full smartphone, with safety features, real-time location tracking, and AI support built into a compact body.
The front of the device carries two dedicated physical buttons. One activates the AI assistant, while the other serves as an SOS button for emergencies.
Safety controls for parents
Lenovo pairs the device with a location system that uses multiple positioning methods. Parents can view a child’s location in real time through the companion app, and they can also check travel history afterward.
The same app includes an electronic safety fence feature. Parents can set safe zones such as home or school, and the system will send an automatic alert when the child leaves that area.
Additional controls are also available through the app. These include app installation limits, screen time restrictions, blocking unknown numbers, and disabling certain features during school hours.
The device also supports digital payments with spending limits that parents can set. Every transaction made by the child triggers a notification on the parent’s phone.
AI support for learning and daily use
Beyond security, Lenovo has built multimodal AI into the device. Children can point the camera at plants, animals, or everyday objects they do not recognize, and the AI will help identify them.
The AI also works like a chatbot. It can answer general questions and provide educational support, including homework help, dictionary functions, and bilingual learning materials.
For communication, Lenovo uses a 5 MP camera on a rotating hinge module. That setup allows the device to handle both photos and video calls.
Compact hardware aimed at children
The Lenovo AI Companion Device is built in a small form factor so it is easy for children to carry. On the front, it features a 2-inch HD touchscreen protected by Panda Glass for added durability in daily use.
Inside, the device comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It runs on an Android-based operating system, which also allows additional apps to be installed.
In promotional material, Lenovo highlights support for popular apps in China such as WeChat, QQ, DeepSeek, digital dictionary services, and online learning platforms. The device also supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and 4G LTE through a SIM card slot, allowing voice calls, video calls, and AI access outside the home.
Lenovo has also added practical extras such as magnetic charging, a customizable interface, and daily reminders for routine activities like drinking water, waking up, and other scheduled tasks.
Price and availability
In China, the Lenovo AI Companion Device is priced at 599 yuan. Lenovo has not confirmed whether the device will be sold globally.
With SOS access, live location tracking, a rotating camera, and AI-based learning features, Lenovo is positioning the device as more than a simple communication tool for children.
