Reports of vertical green screen lines have surfaced on two different Samsung wearable categories: the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch and the Galaxy Fit 3 fitness band. The reports remain limited, but they raise a concern for owners of older AMOLED-equipped devices.
There is no evidence yet of a widespread defect across Samsung’s wearable range. The available cases come from separate Reddit posts and do not establish how many devices may be affected.
What Owners Reported
A Reddit user identified as HKNworld shared images of a Galaxy Watch 4 with a thin vertical green or white line on the right side of its display. Another image showed a more severe screen condition, including dead pixels.
According to the post, the line appeared shortly after installing One UI 8 Watch or a subsequent security update. That timing alone is not enough to conclude that the software update directly caused the display damage.
A separate complaint involving the Galaxy Fit 3 was reported by GizmoChina. The device was said to be less than two years old and showed a similar vertical green line on its display.
| Device | Reported Screen Issue | Reported Context |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch 4 | Vertical green or white line and dead pixels | Reported after One UI 8 Watch or a security update |
| Galaxy Fit 3 | Vertical green line | Device reported to be less than two years old |
Why the Reports Matter
The two products belong to different wearable segments. The Galaxy Watch 4 is a smartwatch, while the Galaxy Fit 3 is a fitness band.
That distinction means the complaints are not confined to a single type of device. Even so, the reports do not prove that the same technical issue affects Samsung’s entire wearable lineup.
There is also no information indicating a shared usage pattern, a confirmed number of affected units, or similar cases involving other wearable models. Owners should therefore avoid treating a screen line as a confirmed consequence of an update before the device undergoes technical inspection.
Similar Concerns Have Appeared on Galaxy Phones
The reports resemble earlier complaints of green and pink lines on some Galaxy phones after major One UI updates. In phone cases, thermal stress during an update has often been discussed as a factor that may place strain on AMOLED panels.
No such connection has been confirmed for the Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Fit 3. Samsung has not stated that heat during updates or a specific software factor damages the displays of these wearables.
The Galaxy Watch 4 first arrived in 2021, meaning many units are now outside their warranty period. If a service centre determines that the display fault does not qualify for a free repair, the panel replacement cost may fall to the owner.
The model has also previously been associated with an issue known as the Red Screen of Death. The latest vertical-line reports add another reason for long-term owners to monitor the condition of their watch display.
Steps Owners Can Take
Owners who notice green or white lines, or dead pixels, should record the condition with clear photos and videos. It is also useful to note when the issue first appeared and which update was installed most recently.
Those records can help establish the timeline when the device is inspected at an authorised service centre. Owners can also ask technicians whether a panel replacement is needed and what the repair may cost.
Samsung has not issued an official statement on the reported screen lines affecting the Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Fit 3. For devices outside warranty, the available options may ultimately include paid repair or considering a newer model such as the Galaxy Watch 7 or Galaxy Watch 8.
