The first clear hint about Pixel 11 Pro Fold has surfaced not from the hardware itself, but from Android 17 beta. A wallpaper thumbnail believed to be tied to the foldable device was found in a developer preview build long before the Pixel 11 series has been officially introduced.
That type of discovery is often treated as an early signal that Google is already preparing software elements for the next generation of its premium devices. It is not a confirmation, but it does suggest that the company’s internal development efforts are moving ahead in parallel with the public-facing product cycle.
A wallpaper discovery that drew attention
According to a report citing Android Authority, software engineer Dylan Roussel spotted the wallpaper thumbnail inside Android 17 beta. Two names were attached to the files: “Pine: Tidal Swirl” and “Midnight: Lunar Tides.”
Those labels are still unverified by Google, yet they quickly attracted interest because wallpaper names on Pixel devices are often tied to the visual identity of the phone. In many cases, such assets are created to complement color options or reinforce a product’s overall design language.
The appearance of these files also matters because assets of this kind typically show up much closer to launch. Finding them inside an early beta makes the situation more notable, even though there is no guarantee the files will remain unchanged by the time the device reaches the market.
Possible color direction for the foldable
The strongest reading from the wallpaper names is that Pixel 11 Pro Fold may be offered in at least two color variants. “Pine” has been interpreted as a green tone, while “Midnight” points to a darker finish, likely black.
That interpretation follows Google’s pattern of aligning wallpaper themes with device colors. If that approach is used again, the new foldable could arrive in green and black options without requiring a major visual redesign.

Another important point from the available information is that the Pixel 11 Pro Fold does not appear to be heading toward a broader foldable design. Expectations for a wider format, which would give users more room on the main display, are not supported by the current leak details.
