Vivo’s next foldable may be shaping up as one of the company’s most significant upgrades yet. The X Fold 6 is now being linked to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, and that could make it the first folding phone to use the chipset.
That change alone would mark an important shift for Vivo’s foldable line. Previous models relied on Snapdragon platforms, so moving to MediaTek would give the next generation a very different hardware identity.
A new performance direction
Digital Chat Station says the X Fold 6 will run on the Dimensity 9500 as its main engine. For comparison, the Vivo X Fold 5 used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The switch matters because it changes how Vivo positions the device in the foldable market. Rather than focusing only on a slimmer build, the company appears to be pairing that design goal with a newer performance platform.
Camera hardware sees a major jump
The most striking upgrade is said to be the main camera. Vivo X Fold 6 is rumored to carry a 200MP primary camera, a sharp step up from the X Fold 5’s three 50MP camera setup.
The other two rear cameras are expected to remain in place. That means a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens are still part of the package, and the camera module is also expected to keep its circular shape.
This detail comes from a prototype reportedly tested by Digital Chat Station. It suggests Vivo is refining the familiar rear design rather than changing the layout completely.
Thin build remains a priority
Even with stronger hardware, Vivo still seems committed to keeping the phone light and slim. The company previously said the X Fold 5 weighed 217 grams, making it the lightest foldable it had ever produced.
That direction appears to continue with the X Fold 6. The focus on portability suggests Vivo wants a foldable that stays practical in everyday use, not just powerful on paper.
Biometric hardware is also expected to stay familiar. The X Fold 6 is said to retain a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a choice often used on thin foldables to preserve a streamlined design.
Launch timing is still unconfirmed
Vivo has not announced an official release date yet. Even so, the company’s foldable lineup is said to return this year, which keeps the X Fold 6 within the expected product cycle.
For context, the Vivo X Fold 5 launched in June 2025 at 6,999 yuan, or around Rp 17.8 million. It also came with IPX8 and IPX9 certification and was claimed to withstand thousands of folding cycles underwater.
With those details in mind, the X Fold 6 is already drawing attention before launch. A Dimensity 9500 chipset, a 200MP main camera, and a continued push for a thinner body give the device a clear chance to stand out in Vivo’s foldable lineup.
