WhatsApp is beginning to test a Liquid Glass look in its iOS beta, and the change gives the app a noticeably different feel. The update pushes WhatsApp closer to a cleaner, more modern visual style that follows the latest direction seen in iOS.
The leak surfaced after WABetaInfo shared screenshots from WhatsApp TestFlight build 26.7.10.74. Those images show that several interface elements have already been adjusted with textures and effects that resemble Liquid Glass.
Core controls get the new treatment
The most visible changes appear in the tools people use most often during chats. The text field, voice call button, and video call button now show a more translucent finish with smoother layering.
WABetaInfo also said the attachment button and the menu are expected to follow the same design language. From the screenshots that have circulated, WhatsApp appears to keep its main structure intact while updating the core controls around it.
The effect is noticeable in both light mode and dark mode. Instead of changing how the app works, the new look mainly gives the interface a lighter and more polished appearance.
WhatsApp starts closing the design gap
The move matters because WhatsApp had not publicly adopted this style before. Other messaging apps such as Telegram and Signal are said to have already introduced similar visual elements shortly after iOS 26 brought the design trend into view.
That makes WhatsApp’s current testing look like an effort to catch up with a visual direction that has already reached some of its rivals. In messaging apps, interface design can shape the overall experience just as much as features do.
There are still signs that the work is not complete. The default WhatsApp background visible in the screenshots reportedly does not yet fully match the Liquid Glass theme.
That suggests the update is still in progress and other parts may still be adjusted. Background elements or additional interface pieces could be refined later to make the visual style feel more consistent.
For now, the test remains on iOS beta
The leak comes from a TestFlight build, so the testing is limited to the iOS beta channel. There is still no confirmation that Meta plans to bring the same design language to WhatsApp on Android.
That uncertainty stands out because WhatsApp used to take different design approaches on iOS and Android for a long time. More recently, though, the app has been said to unify most of its design elements across both platforms.
If that pattern continues, a future Android version of Liquid Glass would not be out of the question. Even so, there is no official indication that such a rollout is already planned.
Telegram’s move to bring many Liquid Glass elements from iOS to Android only adds more attention to WhatsApp’s next step. For now, the screenshots indicate that Meta is at least experimenting with a more transparent and layered visual style for the app.
What remains unknown is how far the work has progressed internally. WABetaInfo did not share any details about the stage of the test, and there is still no release window for general users.
That means the new design may change before it reaches the stable version, or it may not arrive widely at all. Beta features often evolve before launch, and the elements seen in test builds do not always appear unchanged in the final release.
Still, the leaked screenshots show a clear shift in direction. The parts of WhatsApp users see most often are the first to adopt the new look, and that alone makes the update one of the more noticeable visual experiments the app has shown so far.
