Giants Work Out Odell Beckham Jr. Again, Reunion Hangs On A Shrinking Role

The New York Giants are again evaluating Odell Beckham Jr. as they consider whether a reunion with the former star receiver makes sense. Sources told ESPN that Beckham is working out for the team for a second time this offseason, and the club is also bringing in other veteran receivers as it looks to add depth.

The timing matters because the Giants have recent injury issues at wide receiver. Gunner Olszewski tore his Achilles during an OTA practice, while Malik Nabers is dealing with a knee issue and Darius Slayton is sidelined with a core muscle injury.

Giants widen their search at receiver

Along with Beckham, the Giants are signing Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal, according to his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. The team also looked at JuJu Smith-Schuster and Anthony Miller during the same workout, which shows the front office is examining multiple options rather than focusing on one name.

That approach gives New York flexibility as it weighs short-term help against roster fit. Beckham would not be asked to return in the same role he once held, and the Giants appear to be looking at him through that lens.

A familiar face, but a different role

Beckham, 33, first worked out for the Giants in April and has stayed in contact with coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh said last month that he had spoken with Beckham “three or four times in the last week” to understand where both sides stood.

Harbaugh also said the earlier workout “went well,” but added that the team would let the situation develop through spring and into training camp. The Giants still have their final four voluntary OTAs this week, followed by mandatory minicamp next Monday through Wednesday before the summer break.

A source told ESPN that Beckham was optimistic during his visit to the area this weekend for the Brian Burns Celebrity Softball Game. He also spoke with quarterback Jaxson Dart and Nabers, and he told The New York Post there was still some “unfinished” business.

What a reunion would mean

A return to New York would carry strong symbolism because Beckham was drafted by the Giants with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. He started his career with three seasons of more than 1,300 receiving yards, but injuries and off-field controversies altered that early path.

This version of Beckham would be asked to compete for a roster spot rather than lead the offense as the top target. He could serve as a veteran presence and potentially help a young receiver group, including Nabers, if the Giants decide the fit is right.

Beckham is also trying to rebuild after sitting out last season and finishing 2024 with the Miami Dolphins with nine catches for 55 yards. For New York, the decision now centers on whether his current role, health and expectations line up with what the team needs before camp opens.
