Apple’s iOS 27 is still in developer beta, but the biggest early signal is not a system-wide redesign. It is the Notes app, which appears set to gain four productivity-focused upgrades that could make it far more useful for everyday work.
The changes center on Siri-powered note creation, wider Markdown support, divider lines, and section links. Together, they point to a version of Notes that is built not just for quick memos, but also for research, planning, and longer-form organization.
Siri AI moves Notes beyond simple dictation
The most notable addition is Siri AI support inside Notes. Instead of only transcribing spoken words, Siri is expected to create notes automatically, generate lists, summarize information, save content directly into Notes, and help organize material on request.
That shift makes the app feel more context-aware. For users who capture ideas quickly or work through large amounts of information, a smarter Siri could change Notes from a passive notepad into a more active productivity tool.
Markdown support becomes more flexible
iOS 27 is also expected to broaden Markdown handling in Notes. Users will reportedly be able to paste Markdown-formatted text directly into the app, where it will be converted automatically into rich text.
In the opposite direction, formatted content can also be copied back out as Markdown. That should matter most for writers, developers, and creators who regularly move text between Notes, blogs, websites, and documentation tools.
Cleaner structure with divider lines and section links
Apple is also adding divider lines, which can be inserted through the editing menu to separate topics, meeting notes, or longer project plans. The feature is simple, but it should make dense notes easier to scan on a phone screen.
Section links are the other major structural upgrade. They let users jump directly to a specific part of the same note, which makes internal references and navigation much easier in long documents.
That is especially useful for study guides, project documentation, and personal knowledge bases. Instead of scrolling manually from top to bottom, users can move through sections more efficiently.
Why the new Notes direction matters
The four updates address the core problems many users face in Notes: speed, formatting, structure, and navigation. Apple appears to be pushing the app closer to a serious workspace rather than a simple built-in utility.
That could also strengthen Notes against third-party note-taking apps. Students, professionals, writers, researchers, and casual users all stand to benefit if the features remain intact through the final release.

Beyond Notes, iOS 27 is also reported to include broader system improvements such as expanded Siri AI integration across more apps, stronger Apple Intelligence capabilities, redesigned interface elements, better app interaction, wider customization options, and improvements to performance and stability.
Apple may still add more features as the beta cycle continues, so the final shape of iOS 27 could change before release.
Beta 2 is expected to focus on bug fixes and system refinement, including performance tuning, battery optimization, interface polishing, Apple Intelligence improvements, and adjustments based on developer feedback.
Developer beta is already available, public beta is expected in July, and the final release is expected in September alongside the next iPhone lineup.
Why some users may see “Still Indexing” after updating
Early beta users may also notice messages such as “Still Indexing” or “Indexing in Progress” after installing the update. That is described as normal after a major iOS installation.
The indexing process helps the iPhone rebuild search databases, organize photos and files, process Apple Intelligence features, optimize Siri, and improve Spotlight results. Depending on storage size and how much content is on the device, it can take several hours or even several days.
If the reported changes make it into the final version, Notes on iOS 27 could become one of the most practical upgrades in the entire beta cycle. For many iPhone users, that would make Apple’s default notes app far more capable for daily work.
