Casio’s latest G-Shock collaboration with XG takes an unusual approach to identity: no two units are meant to look exactly the same. One model relies on a rainbow vapor deposition finish on the crystal, while the other uses marbled resin and a dial that shifts color under light.
That design choice gives the release a stronger fashion angle than a typical special edition. It also means the two watches share a common collaboration theme without relying on identical surface details.
Two models, two visual directions
The higher-priced model is the GM-S5600XG-1, listed at ¥36,300. It uses G-Shock’s familiar square case shape and combines standard black resin with stainless steel to keep the look balanced.
Its most distinctive element sits over the digital display. Casio says the rainbow vapor deposition process creates a slightly different color gradient on each watch, and the tone also changes depending on the angle of the wrist.
That keeps the GM-S5600XG-1 close to the classic square G-Shock formula. At the same time, the iridescent crystal adds a more expressive layer without changing the watch’s core identity.
The second model, the GMA-S110XG-4A, is priced at ¥25,300. Instead of the square case, it uses an analog-digital hybrid layout with a larger body.
A marbled finish and a color-shifting dial
Casio gives the GMA-S110XG-4A a different visual personality through its bezel and strap. Both parts are made from pink resin using a color molding technique that mixes multiple resins during production, which creates a marbled pattern unique to each unit.
The dial also changes character in light. Casio equips this model with a polarized dial that shifts color when exposed to illumination, adding another layer of visual movement.
Together, the pink tone, marbled pattern, and light-reactive dial make the GMA-S110XG-4A feel more outspoken than the square model. It is the more colorful of the two, while still staying within the same collaboration family.
XG branding without losing G-Shock function
Despite the strong visual treatment, both watches remain fully rooted in G-Shock’s core formula. XG branding appears on the dial and case back, but the functional package stays close to the standard lineup.
Each model offers 200-meter water resistance and shock-resistant construction. Casio also includes a stopwatch, timer, alarm, and LED backlight on both watches.
Power details differ by model. The GM-S5600XG-1 uses a CR1616 battery with an estimated life of three years, while the GMA-S110XG-4A runs on a CR1220 battery rated for up to two years.
Material choices and release timing
Casio also continues to use bio-based resin for the straps on both watches. That fits the company’s broader effort to reduce traditional plastic use in manufacturing.
The result is a collaboration that goes beyond simply adding a logo to an existing product. Each watch has its own visual logic, from the rainbow-treated crystal on the square model to the marbled resin and shifting dial on the hybrid design.
The collection briefly appeared on Casio US’s website before the listings were removed. Casio has confirmed a Japan launch on June 12, while the US release schedule has not been officially announced.
