Falling Shipments Put OnePlus’ Global Future in Doubt as Realme Eyes China Exit

OnePlus’ reported global retrenchment comes as the brand faces weaker shipment figures and mounting pressure on smartphone margins. A broader BBK Electronics restructuring rumor suggests that OnePlus could leave the United States and Europe, while Realme may withdraw from China.

The reported shift would reverse the two brands’ market priorities in a striking way. OnePlus is said to refocus on China, whereas Realme, which shares a corporate umbrella with OPPO, could step away from its domestic Chinese market.

Shipment Decline Adds Pressure

According to TheNextWeb, OnePlus’ global shipments in 2025 fell by more than 20%. The brand reportedly declined from roughly 17 million units to around 13 million to 14 million units.

TechInsights data also pointed to a difficult period for OPPO and OnePlus combined. Their shipments fell 2% year on year in the second quarter of 2025, while the global smartphone market grew 4%.

International expansion was reportedly not sufficient to offset pressure from declining domestic market share in China. Profitability in overseas markets is also said to have weakened amid intense competition.

OnePlus’ mid-range portfolio, including the Nord 5, reportedly faces a particularly difficult cost environment. The high-specification, low-price formula has become harder to sustain as memory component costs rise.

LPDDR component prices were reportedly up by as much as 250% after manufacturers redirected production toward chips for AI data centers. That increase has made it more difficult to protect margins in the mid-range smartphone segment.

Possible Withdrawal From Western Markets

GSMArena, citing Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, reported that OnePlus could pull out of the United States and Europe as early as this week. The reported move is described as the first stage of a wider restructuring plan.

In the longer term, BBK Electronics is rumored to be considering the closure of OnePlus operations in nearly all international markets. Under that scenario, OnePlus would direct its focus back to China.

By 2027, OnePlus is expected to no longer operate outside China, including in India, if the plan proceeds. The prospect is notable because the company recently launched the N6 series in India and has begun signaling a newer model.

India has long been one of the world’s major smartphone markets, with fierce competition among brands. An exit from the country would therefore represent a substantial change in OnePlus’ international business strategy.

Realme Could Take the Opposite Route

Realme is reportedly being positioned for the opposite direction to OnePlus. Rather than consolidating in China, the brand could leave the Chinese market as part of a market-focus exchange within the same corporate structure.

There is no indication yet of which markets Realme would prioritize after a potential China withdrawal. OPPO and OnePlus have not issued official comments on the restructuring rumor.

The report says similar information from two separate sources with accurate records has increased industry attention. Formal confirmation or an announcement is still awaited regarding the future of OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme in global markets.
