Chicago Fire FC’s home match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC will not be played as scheduled after poor air quality conditions affected the Chicago area. Wildfire smoke prompted the club to move the Soldier Field fixture to Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The postponement also affects the planned post-match performance by Two Friends, which had been part of the club’s Summer Concert Series presented by Café Bustelo. The concert has been postponed, and details on its new plans have not yet been announced.
Chicago Fire FC said the decision put the health and safety of fans, players, staff, and event personnel first. The club consulted local health experts, Major League Soccer, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and the City of Chicago before confirming the change.

High Expectations Before the Postponement

“With a marquee matchup against Vancouver, the anticipated home debut of Robert Lewandowski, and the Two Friends post-match concert, tonight was expected to be a special evening at Soldier Field,” Dave Baldwin, Chicago Fire FC’s President of Business Operations, said in the club’s announcement.
Baldwin acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the change but stressed that health and safety had to take priority. According to www.chicagofirefc.com, the club thanked fans, partners, and the Chicago community for their understanding and cooperation.
Chicago Fire FC said it will continue to provide club updates through its official social media channels as the rescheduled match date approaches.
