Georgia is set to host the Men’s Junior World Championship in June and July 2026, marking its first time as host since 2009. This edition will feature an expanded tournament format with 16 international teams competing for the title.
The competition will be held in two Georgian cities—Tbilisi, the capital, and Kutaisi, the country’s second-largest city. This arrangement offers fans not only top-level international rugby but also the chance to explore Georgia’s diverse cultural and travel attractions.
Match Venues and Schedule
Three stadiums have been selected to host the tournament matches: Avchala Rugby Stadium and Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in Tbilisi, and Aia Arena in Kutaisi. The opening four match days will take place at Avchala Rugby Stadium and Aia Arena.
On match days five, scheduled for July 17 and 18, matches will occur across all three venues, including Mikheil Meskhi Stadium. Organizers advise fans to verify match locations carefully, as venues and cities may change between the early rounds and the later stages due to team progressions.
Significance of the Expanded Format
The increase to 16 teams reflects a rising global interest in youth rugby development. It presents Georgia with a significant opportunity to demonstrate its sports infrastructure and capability to host major international events.
Additionally, this championship will boost Georgia’s hospitality industry and international visibility by attracting visitors keen to experience the nation’s rich culture alongside the sporting spectacle.
Hosting the expanded tournament aligns with World Rugby’s objectives to broaden the sport’s reach and nurture emerging talent worldwide. This event is expected to further elevate Georgia’s status as a growing rugby nation on the global stage.
