Apple has opened the iOS 27 public beta to general users, giving early access to the next version of its mobile operating system before the final release expected at the end of 2026. The update is notable because Siri AI is positioned as its main highlight, signaling a sharper push into artificial intelligence.
The beta is no longer limited to developers. Users enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program can now download iOS 27 alongside public betas for iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, macOS 27, and tvOS 27.
Older iPhones remain in the lineup
Compatibility remains broad, with Apple keeping support for every iPhone that can already run iOS 26. That includes the iPhone 11 and later models, as well as the second-generation iPhone SE from 2020 and newer.
| Compatible Devices | Status in iOS 27 |
|---|---|
| iPhone 11 and newer | Supported |
| iPhone SE 2nd generation (2020) and later | Supported |
Liquid Glass gets refined, speed improves
Apple is also refining the Liquid Glass interface design that was introduced earlier. Alongside the visual changes, the company says iOS 27 brings a substantial performance boost across the system.
According to Apple, app launches can now be up to 30% faster. Loading the photo gallery is said to improve by 70%, while file transfers through AirDrop are 80% faster.
The company also points to smoother network switching, including transitions between Wi-Fi networks and from Wi-Fi to 5G mobile data. That kind of improvement is aimed at making everyday use feel less interrupted, especially on devices that move between connections frequently.
Siri AI becomes the headline feature
The central change in iOS 27 is Siri AI, a virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence and designed for more natural language interaction. Users can ask questions, search for information on the device, and trigger commands through conversations that feel more conversational.
Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app to make access easier. However, the company says some AI features will be restricted in the European Union because of ongoing regulatory issues.
Even though the public beta is now available, Apple is still treating it as a testing release. That means bugs and usability problems may still appear, so the company is advising caution before installing it on a primary device.
With wider device support, noticeable performance claims, and a stronger focus on Siri AI, iOS 27 looks like one of Apple’s more ambitious updates in recent years. The beta gives users a first look, but the final judgment will depend on how the software holds up as testing continues.
