Tecno Pova 8 5G Pairs a 8,000 mAh Battery With a Mini Dot-Matrix Rear Display

Tecno Pova 8 5G stands out for a combination that is still uncommon in its class: a futuristic design, a mini dot-matrix display on the back, and a large 8,000 mAh battery. The device is not aimed at gamers alone, but also at users who care about endurance and practical everyday use.

In Indonesia, the model arrives as the successor to the Pova 7 5G, which was introduced in July 2025. Tecno pairs the phone with 45W fast charging, 10W reverse charging, and dust and splash resistance certification.

A more minimal look, but still visually distinctive

The Pova 8 5G keeps the Pova series identity through a triangular camera module with rounded corners. Its rear panel is more minimal than the previous model, yet it still looks futuristic thanks to its asymmetrical lines.

According to Anthoni Roderick, PR Manager at Tecno, that design direction was chosen because the Pova 8 5G is not focused only on gaming. The company also placed strong emphasis on performance and battery endurance.

The back panel uses a glossy finish that does not feel overly slippery in hand. Tecno also adds orange accents on the power button and certain body details, creating a sharp contrast on the Echo Green variant, which appears greenish gray.

Alive Matrix Display becomes the headline feature

The most eye-catching element sits on the rear camera area through Tecno Alive Matrix Display. This mini dot-matrix screen is almost the same size as the two camera lenses and can show interactive lighting effects.

Its uses range from incoming calls and notifications to music playback, gaming, charging, and other activities. Tecno says the system offers around 49 lighting scenarios that users can adjust to their preference.

Users can also create their own animation patterns through Settings > Status Light > Custom Light Effects. In that menu, the phone shows a dot-matrix illustration so users can draw their own patterns.

Battery life is the biggest upgrade

One of the largest changes is the battery, which now reaches 8,000 mAh. That is a clear step up from the Pova 7 5G, which carried a 6,000 mAh battery.

The larger battery also increases the weight to 225 grams from 207 grams. Even so, the phone becomes slightly slimmer at 8.8 mm, compared with 8.9 mm on the previous model.

Tecno claims the battery can last up to two days in normal use. For daily activities, the phone is said to support up to 60 hours of calls, 85 hours of music playback, 29 hours of YouTube viewing, 26 hours of WhatsApp chatting, and 14 hours of Mobile Legends gaming.

For recharging, Tecno includes 45W fast charging. The phone also supports Bypass Charging, which sends power directly to the device without passing through the battery, plus 10W reverse charging for powering other devices.

144Hz display, Dimensity 7100, and durability features

On the front, the Pova 8 5G uses a 6.76-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD Plus resolution and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. The panel also supports a 240Hz touch sampling rate.

Tecno adds Wet & Oily Finger Touch Recognition 2.0, which is designed to stay responsive even when fingers are wet or oily. The IPS LCD panel does not offer the same sense of spaciousness as AMOLED, but the high refresh rate keeps navigation smooth.

Performance comes from the MediaTek Dimensity 7100, paired with up to 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. For cooling, Tecno uses a 15,000 mm² graphite sheet.

The device is also said to maintain stable frame rates up to 90 FPS in several popular games such as Mobile Legends Bang Bang and Honor of Kings. In the camera department, it offers a 50MP main camera with a Sony Lytia 600 sensor, 1/1.95-inch size, autofocus, and 2x lossless zoom.

At the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera for photos and video calls. The software side is covered by Android 16 with HiOS 16, along with two OS upgrades and three years of security patches.

Other features include FreeLink 2.0 for communication without internet access at distances of up to 1.5 kilometers. The phone also carries IP64 and MIL-STD-810H certification, indicating resistance to dust, splashes, drops, and extreme temperatures.
